The time has come. Terry Hollands is coming out of retirement to compete in another strongman contest: the Giants Live 2023 Britain’s Strongest Man (BSM) contest, scheduled for Jan. 28, 2023, at the Utilita Arena Sheffield, in Sheffield, England. Giants Live has not yet released the official roster for the contest.
Hollands took to his Instagram page on Nov. 27, 2022, to share the news and rationale for his competitive return to the sport. He attributed it to the “unfinished business” of competing in front of his son, Zach. Check out the post below:

Hollands retired from strongman following his injury sustained at the 2021 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) contest in Sacramento, CA, which caused him to withdraw from the competition. Since leaving competitive strongman, Hollands dropped a significant amount of weight off his frame to compete in a bodybuilding contest — the Fit X The Insight Supps contest in Leeds, England, in May 2022.
Packing some weight back on to move the heavy implements in an elite Giants Live contest is cause for a considerable change in Hollands’ caloric intake. Per his Instagram caption, he intends to be transparent about those changes and pull back the curtain for his 210,000 followers.
We will do an intense strongman programme. This is the most transparent I’ll ever be, EVERYTHING that goes into a prep will be covered.
According to Strongman Archives, Hollands has competed in 89 international strongman contests. Across those 89 competitions, Hollands stood atop the podium on four occasions. He also won one of his 11 national contest appearances. Here are those victories:
Terry Hollands Strongman Contest Career Wins
- 2019 Masters World’s Strongest Man
- 2019 Força Bruta
- 2011 All-American Strongman Challenge
- 2010 Strongman Champions League (SCL) Ireland
- 2007 Britain’s Strongest Man
Hollands has 15 WSM appearances, of which he reached the Final nine times. His highest ranking was third in 2011. He also ranked fifth in 2014, seventh in 2012, eighth in 2010, and sixth in 2009. If Hollands’ adapted diet can help him get back into strongman shape, perhaps he can capture the magic of his multiple victories in 2019 in 2023. Per the Giants Live website, the 2023 BSM is the first contest of the 2023 season.
