The OUT Foundation’s “OUT in the OPEN” Leaderboard Returns for the 2022 CrossFit Open

The gender-inclusive leaderboard will raise money for The OUT Foundation's initiatives.

The 2022 CrossFit Open kicks off on Feb. 24, 2022, and will span three weeks, with a different workout featured each Thursday. On Feb. 3, 2022, The OUT Foundation — an organization with the mission to “remove barriers that block LGBTQ+ individuals’ access and participation in fitness” — announced the return of their OUT in the OPEN leaderboard, which will feature aggregated scores of participating LGBTQ+ athletes and allies.

According to The OUT Foundation’s press release:

“By using CrossFit Games verbiage of ā€œCrossFit Men’s Standardsā€ and ā€œCrossFit Women’s Standards,ā€ the OUT in the OPEN Leaderboard permits an athlete the choice of which standards they wish to compete under.”

The OUT in the OPEN leaderboard ranks LGBTQ+ athletes and allies 2022 CrossFit Open scores against each other for a chance to win weekly prizes. In 2021, prizes included fitness apparel from PUMA like their FUSE Training Shoe, Beast goodr sunglasses, O2 recovery drinks, and gym accessories, to name a few. The 2021 OUT in the OPEN leaderboard “included 339 athletes ages 17-66 representing 24 countries, 47 US states, and nine Canadian provinces.” Some of the biggest CrossFit names on the 2021 OUT in the OPEN leaderboard were 2013 Fittest Woman on Earth Sam BriggsAlec SmithMeg Reardon, CrossFit Athlete Advisory Council (CAAC) member Meredith Root, and Tom Miazga.
 
According to The OUT Foundation Founder and Chief Strategy Officer Will Lanier, “the CrossFit Games is working with us to continue the important conversation and actions of inclusion.”
 
LGBTQ+ athletes and allies may also register as a fundraiser for the OUT in the OPEN 2022 leaderboard, where the collective fundraising goal is $50,000 to support The OUT Foundation’s initiatives. Donations are accepted on their website. In 2021, the OUT in the OPEN leaderboard raised “over $55,000 to benefit The OUT Foundation’s programs.
 

2022 CrossFit Open

If the 2022 CrossFit Open still features the programming of the former CrossFit General Manager of SportDave Castro, two new yet-to-be-named elements will make their Open debuts in 2022. We’ll see which athletes opt to rank on the OUT in the OPEN 2022 leaderboard to help the foundation reach its fundraising goal and endure the mysterious fitness challenges that await in the OPEN.
