Just one day after Meredith Alwine became Team USA’s first World Champion at the 2021 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, 76-kilogram athlete Mattie Rogers continued the streak.
Rogers hit a 107-kilogram (235.8-pound) snatch, a 136-kilogram (299.8-pound) clean & jerk, and totaled 243 kilograms (535.7 pounds). Her performance earned three medals — bronze in the snatch, silver in the clean & jerk, and silver overall.

2021 World Weightlifting Championships Women’s 76-Kilogram Results
- Min Ji Lee (KOR) — 244 kilograms (105/139)
- Mattie Rogers (USA) — 243 kilograms (107/136)
- Iana Sotieva (RWF) — 242 kilograms (112/130)
The 76-kilogram session proved to be among the closest finales of the entire competition in Tashkent. After finishing a strong third in the snatch portion, Rogers missed her opening clean & jerk at 132 kilograms (291 pounds). While she did make it on her second appearance, she was only able to secure 136 with her final attempt.
However, two misses in a row at 135 kilograms (297.6 pounds) from Russian Iana Sotieva opened the field. Rogers maneuvered into second place after Korean athlete Kim Suhyeon failed to register her second and third lifts. If Suhyeon made her lifts, she would’ve likely denied Rogers a podium position.
Mattie Rogers’s Athletic Career
By winning silver in Tashkent, Rogers has stacked a few more medals upon her pile of competition accolades. Per USA Weightlifting’s Instagram, Rogers is the first American to medal at four consecutive World Championships in almost three decades. She’s also ranked a firm third on the list of the most decorated American female weightlifters in IWF Worlds history.
Beyond making serious strides on behalf of her home country, Rogers also boasts an exhaustive list of international achievements as a weightlifter.

The Power of Momentum
Rogers joins fellow Team USA athletes Olivia Reeves, who won silver in the snatch on Dec. 13, 2021, and World Champion Meredith Alwine as the cohort of athletes leading the way for the United States in Tashkent.
Although only a few weight classes remain, there are still plenty of opportunities for athletes the world over to go for gold at one of the most hotly-competitive IWF events in recent years.
