The 2022 Pan American Weightlifting Championships are underway in Bogotá, Colombia, having kicked off on July 24 and concluding on July 29, 2022. The contest features 265 athletes from 23 nations.
The stakes are high in Bogotá, as this year’s results will be tallied with the 2021 results to determine how many athletes each nation will send to the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games. Per USA Weightlifting‘s press release, Team USA consists of 17 weightlifters representing 11 states: California, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.
Team USA’s age range spans 19 years, with Hampton Morris as Team USA’s youngest athlete (18 years old) and Cicely Kyle as its oldest athlete (37 years old).

The 2022 IWF Pan American Championships are the final qualifier event to determine Team USA for the 2022 IWF World Championships, also set to be held in Bogotá, Colombia. That contest is the first in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualification period.
On Sunday, July 25, 2022, Morris scored a new Junior clean & jerk World Record of 162 kilograms (357.1-pounds) to claim the overall gold in the 61-kilogram class. That same day Kyle swept silver medals in the snatch and clean & jerk to finish as the overall runner-up in the 45-kilogram class.
