Every week, we are blown away by the big lifts we see. Athletes across all different strength sports put up massive numbers, strive for individual personal bests, and ever so often crush some personal and national/world records!
This week, we had a lot to to sift through with USAPL Raw Nationals wrapping up over the weekend, and we’re talking all kinds of American record-breaking lifts and unofficial World Records!
With all that in mind, check out what these athletes pulled off. We don’t want to give too much away here, but this week Mahailya Reeves, who at 15 years old, put on an insane record-breaking performance at USAPL Raw Nationals, so you’re not going to want to miss this one!
Here’s a breakdown below of this week’s top five lifts!
5. Dennis Cornelius, Powerlifter
120kg powerlifter, Dennis Cornelius dominated his weight class at the 2019 USAPL Raw Nationals on Sunday.
The Tulsa based athlete won the 120kg title with a massive 387 kg (853 lbs) squat, a 242.5 kg (534 lbs) bench press, and 317.5 kg (700 lbs) deadlift for a 947 kg total!
4. Heather Connor, Powerlifter
Heather Connor (47kg) put on a performance to remember at USAPL Raw Nationals. Connor repeated her title as National Champion for the third time, and the lift we still can’t get over was her insane 183kg/403lbs deadlift that set a new American Record and an Unofficial World Record. This pull was more than four times her body weight!
3. Jessica Buettner, Powerlifter
Canadian powerlifter Jessica Buettner is a force to be reckoned with in the -72kg weight class, and over the weekend showed off a crazy 500 lbs deadlift for five reps!
She lifted at the Deadlift4Cancer competition/fundraiser in Saskatoon, a city in Saskatchewan, Canada. Buettner, in full Halloween costume, managed to pull triple her body weight for five reps.
2. Jonathan Cayco, Powerlifter
Jonathan Cayco (93kg) set two American Records at the 2019 USAPL Raw Nationals with his 509lb bench press and 1,914lb total. His other lifts on the day weren’t too shabby either, we’re talking about a 667lb squat and a 738lb deadlift.
1. Mahailya Reeves, Powerlifter
Our number one this week just had to be 15-year-old powerlifting sensation, Mahailya Reeves. Reeves, who competed at her first-ever USAPL Raw Nationals competition over the weekend put on a killer performance in +84kg weight class.
She squatted 540 lbs, benched 369 lbs for an American record, deadlifted 440 lbs, and totaled 1,349 lbs. We can’t wait to see what this kid is going to tackle in the future!
Now that we’ve taken you through five of our favorite lifts, be sure to check back in next week for five more!
