Breaking: Sara Sigmundsdottir will compete at Strength in Depth
The individual women’s competition at the CrossFit Strength in Depth Sanctional in London next month just got a little stiffer, as the event organizers announced that Iceland’s Sara Sigmundsdottir has accepted her invite to compete at the event final February 23rd and 24th.
Sigmundsdottir, a four-time CrossFit Games qualifier and two-time podium finisher, joins a women’s field that includes Games athletes Jamie Greene, Thuri Helgadottir, Jessica Griffith, and teenage division champion Haley Adams.
“We are delighted and feel very privileged to have Sara join us in London,” stated Event Director Ollie Mansbridge, “She is on fire at the moment and doing it with a smile on her face.” Sigmundsdottir has podiumed at each of the first two Sanctionals of the season. She finished 3rd in Dubai to start the season back in December, before battling her way to another 3rd place finish in Miami at Wodapalooza a week ago.
Speculation over top athletes involvement in sanctioned events has been rampant since the system changes went into effect, with Strength in Depth being no exception. “We get asked daily whether Sara will be competing,” Mansbridge revealed, “so it’s great to finally be able to announce she will be.”
The announcement is a huge win for everyone involved because as Mansbridge put it Sigmundsdottir is “a solid fan favorite, I have no doubt Sara is going to receive an epic welcome from the U.K. community!”
The CrossFit Strength in Depth final will be Sigmundsdottir’s third Sanctional competition as an individual this season, tying her with Dani Speegle for the most by an individual athlete up to this point.
