The CrossFit Semifinal Spectator Experience: A Guide to North America West

Competitive CrossFit returns to Carson, CA, as the North America West Semifinal by West Coast Classic heads to Dignity Health Sports Park from May 24 to 26. The facility previously hosted seven CrossFit Games from 2010 to 2016 and was originally known as the Home Depot Center and then the StubHub Center.

If you’re heading to Carson to watch the action in person, we’ve got a rundown of the gyms, restaurants, coffee shops, and other activities in the area that you can enjoy this weekend.

Gyms Nearby

Regenx Fitness and Nutrition

Regenx has traditional classes but will also feature extra stuff around the North American West Semifinal.

  • Drop-In Rates:
    • $20 per class or open gym session
    • Five sessions for $75
    • There will be a 30-person cap for each class 
  • Open Gym Schedule: 
    • Monday, Wednesday, Friday — 8:30 a.m. — 11:30 am
    • Tuesday, Thursday — 1 p.m. — 4 p.m. 
  • Classes:
    • Monday — Friday: 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 12 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m.

Other Info: Regenx will be hosting the crew from HWPO the entire weekend. (Here’s the schedule.) Due to these special events, the gym’s usual class schedule will vary on the weekend.

  • HWPO Class Times: Friday 7 a.m., Saturday 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., Sunday 6 a.m., and 7 a.m.
  • TYR Sports and NOCCO will also be dropping by. TYR will have a booth set up with gear on hand Wednesday (5/22) through Sunday (5/26).

Torrance Training Lab

Semifinal athlete Jamie Hagiya’s affiliate is located a stone’s throw from the venue. The gym will be closed on Saturday and Sunday so everyone can go to the stadium and cheer her on, but it is open the week before the event.

  • Drop-In Rates: $20 per session or week pass for $45
  • Open Gym Schedule: Monday to Friday: 2:30 — 4 p.m.
  • Classe Schedule:
    • Monday-Thursday: 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:45 p.m., and 7 p.m. 
    • Friday: 5 p.m., 9 p.m., 12 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 5:45 p.m.

Other Info: Take on Murph with the Torrance Training crew on Monday (5/27). Heats will run at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

CrossFit Provoke

Located just eight miles from Dignity Health Park, Provoke has been an affiliate for 10 years.

  • Drop-In Rates: $20 per session or as a week pass for $45
  • Open Gym Schedule: 9 a.m. — 1 p.m.
    • Class Schedule:
      • Monday — Friday:  5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7 a.m., 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m.
      • Saturday: 10 a.m.

Other Info: The gym shares a parking lot with Project Barley Brewery, where you can enjoy a Provoke-branded beer called “The Burpee,” a Japanese lager. You can also refuel with “The Provoke,” a meat lover’s pizza at the brewery’s pizza place.

  • The gym also has a “Gym Bin,” where they collect lightly used workout attire to donate to low-income families. If you are dropping in, feel free to bring something to donate!

South Bay CrossFit

  • Drop-In Rates: $25 per session, three sessions for $60, or five sessions for $80
  • Open Gym Schedule: Please be aware that class members get priority on space and equipment.
    • Monday — Thursday: 5 a.m. — 8 p.m.
    • Friday: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    • Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. — 11 p.m.
  • Class Schedule: The gym follows Mayhem Affiliate programming, so expect a great workout!
    • Monday-Thursday: 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:15 p.m., 6:30 p.m.
    • Friday: 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5:15 p.m.
    • Saturday: 8 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.
    • Sunday: 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Seminars to Attend

Aside from all of the fitness, there are plenty of events and seminars during the North America West Semifinal.

  • HWPO Training will host Q&As and interviews at the Dignity Health Sports Park. Check out the full schedule.
  • Various spectator workouts will be held at the venue throughout the midpoint of the day, each day, hosted by HWPO Training, CrossFit Games vet Josh Bridges, CrossFit HQ staff, and more. 
  • Spectators can play trivia and take part in scavenger hunts during breaks in the action.
