Pliability Names Cody Mooney Managing Partner
The pliability brand has become a fixture in the CrossFit space, in part due to the hard work that former Games athlete Cody Mooney has contributed to the company directly since 2020 and even earlier as an athlete ambassador in 2017.
- His commitment and energy have now come full circle as the company has announced that he’s been named a managing partner.
Up until now, Mooney has served as the Director of Performance and worked under current pliability founder Scott Perkins. Mooney’s contributions to the brand have been fundamental in its growth and were integral during the 2022 rebrand, which saw pliability move on from its previous name, ROMWOD.

Remind me: Pliability is a mobility brand that provides guided mobility routines backed by elite athletes and subject matter experts through the company’s app.
After transitioning to pliability, the business (with its eight-figure revenue) achieved major success, with a YTD MRR (monthly recurring revenue) growth of 13.19 percent in 2024. While its foundation remains in CrossFit, pliability has expanded into golf, running, pregnant and postpartum people, and everyday mobility needs.
The brand has become one of the most successful businesses to grow out of CrossFit since 2020.
- Mooney, 29, first entered the CrossFit space as an athlete, going to the CrossFit Games on a team two times before turning his attention to coaching. Soon after, he found a position within pliability.
- “I always felt like what I was doing with the brand — I treated it always as if it was fully mine. I gave it all that attention, the love, the care, the care about the team, the people. It wasn’t just like a nine-to-five for me. It was always more than that because I was really passionate about it,” Mooney tells Morning Chalk Up in an interview.
The company has formed partnerships with elite CrossFit athletes, such as Games champions Laura Horvath and Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, to lead specific routines on their app.
The details: The pliability platform offers more than 1,500 customized routines for athletes and everyday people, which is a change Mooney was directly involved in. He adds that having elite athletes lead routines is vital.
“One of the cool things about fitness that I always loved is when you step inside of a gym, it doesn’t matter if you are the VP of a hedge fund or someone who just works the day to day or a student or whatever it may be, you step into a space where everyone’s on the same playing field,” Mooney says.
- Perkins and Mooney have always had a close relationship, which only grew throughout the company’s rebrand period when Mooney took on a more managerial role and really showed his commitment.
- “I think we’re making a massive noise in the space that is finally getting some light shone on it,” Mooney says. “People are really trying to understand how important stretching mobility recovery is and how it plays a huge factor in life and performance and so many other things. I’m just happy to be part of it.”
Mooney adds that he was one of pliability’s (ROMWOD at the time) first users and continues to practice and use the app. He’s also always looking for feedback on different routines and engaging other employees throughout the week to give certain routines a try.
- “I’m a big believer of ‘practice what you preach.’ I need to be able to still see it in the way that our members do so I can look at it through their lens,” Mooney says.
He intends to stay an active part of the pliability community by attending activations and the CrossFit Games, among other events where the company has a presence. He and Perkins will work together, but specifically, Mooney will oversee daily team operations and product development.
“Scott [Perkins] and I start our week off in the gym together three days a week. We’ve never lost sight,” Mooney says.
