Three-time CrossFit Games Women’s Champion Tia-Clair Toomey is also the 2019 champion of Wodapalooza. The organizers of WZA have announced on their Instagram page that Toomey will be in Miami this year to defend that title next month. Wodapalooza is taking place February 20-23 and is one of the scheduled Sanctional events that will help determine the field for the 2020 CrossFit Games.
The post included a comment about the current champion being a part of the action in Miami and she was the first athlete confirmed to be there.
“It’s finally that time of year… we’re ready to roll out the #WZAElite competing at #WZAMiami in 2020! And we’re kicking it off with a bang! Welcome the 3x Fittest Woman on Earth & reigning Elite Champ @tiaclair1! Come watch her defend her title in Miami this February!”
Toomey herself hasn’t posted anything online or made any statement about this event as of this writing. This is the second Sanctional of 2020 that Toomey is set to be an active competitor in. She is also committed to the inaugural Mayhem Classic which is taking place in Tennessee January 10-12. She did also participate in two Sanctionals in 2019: Wodapalooza and the Rogue Invitational. She was victorious in both of those contests.
Even though qualifying spots are at stake at these events, she is likely already qualified for the 2020 CrossFit Open. If the scores and placings are made official as they stand, she will be in 4th place which would be her highest placing ever in the Open. She would also be 1st in her home country of Australia which would make her the Australian National Champion, thus earning a qualification to Madison. If she is qualified and wins either or both of the Sanctionals, the qualification spot will go to the highest finisher that is not yet qualified for the Games.
