Day 2 of the USA Weightlifting (USAW) National Championships picked up right where day 1 ended with the same excitement and energy surrounding American Weightlifting. The day crowned four more national champions, and we saw another American Record set when Mattie Rogers clean & jerked 134KG to extend her own mark. She now is within 4 kilos of a competition double body weight lift, which we saw three women accomplish on Friday.

James Tatum won his third National Championship with lifts of 150KG in the snatch and 185KG in the clean & jerk. His 335KG total leaves him ranked in the top 12 of all American men towards a spot on the Pan American team this summer in Miami. The silver medalist was Christian Rodriguez Ocasio who totaled 326KG. Zach Meyers was close behind at 325KG and he finished with the bronze overall.
94KG
Colin Burns of Team Juggernaut won his second National Championship, and first since 2014, with a 369KG total. The 34 year old Burns successfully took an 8KG jump in the snatch between his second and third attempts to finish with 170KG in the lift, and he added to his day with a 199KG clean & jerk. Phil Sabatini won the overall silver medal with a total of 345KG. Jason Bonnick won the overall bronze medal with a 342KG total. Both Sabatini and Bonnick are master aged athletes, and all three of them continue to get better with age. Nathan Damron won a silver medal in the clean & jerk with 192KG in the lift, however he was unsuccessful in the snatch on attempts of 155KG.
63KG
In one of the closest and most exciting battles of the competition, Jaclyn Long-Alberts of RVA Weightlifting and Jordan Weichers of California Strength both totaled 201KG for the top overall total. However, Long-Alberts won her first National Championship when she made the total first. December Garcia of Mash Elite Weightlifting was close behind with 200KG for the overall bronze medal. The top seven women in this category all finished within 6 kilos of each other.
69KG
As weightlifting fans have become accustomed to, Mattie Rogers was successful on all six of her attempts to win her third National Championship with a 239KG total. She successfully made 105KG in the snatch, and finished the competition with a 239KG total, which ties her American record which she set at the 2016 Pan American Championships in Cartagena, Colombia, last June. Her 134KG lift in the clean & jerk extended her own American Record. Danielle Hudes won the silver medal overall with a 205KG total. Erin Andica was right behind with a 204KG total, which won the bronze medal overall. The 2nd through 7th place women were all within 5 kilos of each other.
