Hayley Reichardt has secured the first medal for Team USA at the 2016 Youth World Weightlifting Championships in Penang, Malaysia. Competing in the 48KG A session, she finished with lifts of 66KG (145lb) in the snatch and 86KG (189lb) in the clean & jerk, successfully making four of her six attempts. This is the first international medal for Reichardt, the 17 year old native of Reading, PA, whocompetes for the Garage Strength Weightlifting Club.

Earlier in the day, Chloe Tacata of the Myles Ahead Weightlifting Club competed in the 48KG B session. She was successful on lifts of 60KG (132lb) in the snatch and 77KG (169lb) in the clean & jerk. Coincidentally, today happens to be Tacata’s 17th birthday.
The 2016 Youth World Champion is 15 year old Jinhong Zhao of the People’s Republic of China. She was successful on five of her six attempts, including 80KG (176lb) in the snatch and 95KG (209lb) in the clean & jerk.
The Silver Medal was won by 17 year old Wan-Long Fang of Taipei. She was successful on four of her six attempts, including 74KG (163lb) in the snatch and 88KG (194lb) in the clean and jerk.
17 year old Chiraphan Nanthawong of Thailand won a silver medal in the clean and jerk with 94Kg (207lb). However, she was unable to secure a snatch and did not total in the competition.

Up next for USA Weightlifting will be William Cohen competing in the 69KG B session on October 22nd at 10AM local time, or 10PM EST on October 21st. CJ Cummings will compete on October 22nd in the 69KG A session; 4:30PM local time or 4:30AM EST.
