The second day of competition at the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships in Pattaya, Thailand has concluded with the Chinese Weightlifting team setting and resetting four World Records today.

In the men’s 61KG category, China’s Fabin Li swept all three gold medals. This included a World Record 145KG snatch and 173KG clean & jerk. His capstone moment was totaling 318KG to set a new World Record in the total and win his first Senior World Championship.
Men’s 61KG overall medalists:
- Gold – Fabin Li (CHN) 318KG
- Silver – Eko Yuli Irawan (VIE) 306KG
- Bronze – Francisco Mosquera Valencia (COL) 302 KG
Medals were also awarded in the women’s 49KG category, where China’s Jiang Huihua won a back and forth competition versus her countrywoman Hou Zhihui. A lively audience that featured many fans of the Chinese weightlifting team were treated to back-to-back world records set in the total.
Zhihui was successful on her last clean & jerk attempt of 117KG to take the lead and set a new World record in the total. However, not to be outdone, with one attempt remaining Huihua successful lifted 118KG in the clean & jerk to win her 2nd Senior World Championship since her first win in 2015 when she competed in the 48KG category.
Team USA saw their first two athletes in action for the competition. 2016 Olympian Morghan King finished 8th overall in the world with a 183KG total, while 2019 Pan American Champion Alyssa Ritchey finished in 13th place.
Indonesia’s 17-year-old Windy Cantika Aisch improved her own Youth World Records in the snatch, clean & jerk and overall total. She finished the day with an 82KG snatch, 100KG clean & jerk and overall total of 182KG.

- Gold – Jiang Huihua (CHN) 212KG
- Silver – Hou Zhihui (CHN) 211KG
- Bronze – Song Gum Ri (PRK) 204KG
Team USA continues their competition tomorrow, Friday September 20th, where three athletes will be competing. Jordan Wissinger and Alex Lee will compete in the 67KG B session at midnight (CST) and 2019 Pan American Champion Jourdan Delacruz will compete at 2:25 AM (CST) in the 55KG B session.
