About the 2022 Mr. Olympia

In the sport of bodybuilding, no title is more prestigious (or offers a greater monetary prize) than the Olympia. The best competitors in the world train year-round for the opportunity to step on stage in hopes of cementing themselves as the greatest in their respective divisions.

The Mr. Olympia, which features Men’s Open competitors, is considered the main event. This year, Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay was vying for his third title, which, if he was successful, would have made him the ninth man to win at least three Mr. Olympia titles.

Promoters billed the 2022 Mr. O as the most competitive line-up in the sport’s history. While that stance is subjective, the division does feature a who’s-who of striated musclemen. Some of the top contenders include 2019 Mr. O Brandon Curry, perennial competitor William Bonac, and Hadi Choopan of Iran.

There are also a few dark horses that had a chance of breaking into the top three. Nick Walker, who had a breakout year in 2021 (he placed fifth in the Olympia), spent his entire offseason prepping for this single show. Hunter Labrada — son of famed bodybuilder and Mr. Universe Lee Labrada — made noticeable improvements in his back and was hoping to win.

This is, of course, just a taste of what fans came to expect. Keep reading for BarBend’s comprehensive results page, along with information on how to watch the Olympia, callout reports, and division previews.
