2024 CrossFit Semifinals Rosters Revealed — Breaking Down the Numbers

May 11, 2024 by Dave Charlton

The fields are set, and the countdown to Semifinals is in full swing.

As we get ready for three weeks of live competition, it’s a good time to start breaking down the fields.

CrossFit Games Individual Athletes

Across the seven Semifinals, 105 athletes have competed at the CrossFit Games at least once as an individual. That means over 18 percent of the Semifinal field has competed at the CrossFit Games.

On a Semifinal level, North America East leads the way with 17 men and 14 women who have made the Games. Asia is the only Semifinal with more women Games athletes in the field than men.

  • North America East: 17 Men / 14 Women
  • Europe: 15 Men / 13 Women
  • North America West: 12 Men / 10 Women
  • South America: 5 Men / 3 Women
  • Oceania: 5 Men / 3 Women
  • Asia: 3 Men / 4 Women
  • Africa: 1 Man / 0 Women

CrossFit Games Experience

The total appearances at the Games — including as a member of a team — mostly mirror the number of athletes with Games experience.

North America East leads the way with a combined 113 appearances. The men from North America West have the second most Games appearances at 48, while the European women are second with 45.

  • North America East: 64 Men / 49 Women
  • Europe: 42 Men / 45 Women
  • North America West: 48 Men / 25 Women
  • Oceania: 14 Men / 8 Women
  • South America: 9 Men / 4 Women
  • Asia: 3 Men / 4Women
  • Africa: 1 Man / 0 Women

CrossFit Open Finishes

Looking at the Open finishes for the different Semifinals, the European men and women were head and shoulders above the rest.

The average Open finish from athletes at the Europe Semifinal was 217th for the men and 231st for the women.

  • Europe: 217th Men / 231st Women
  • North America West: 534th Men / 329th Women
  • North America East: 543rd Men / 478th Women
  • Oceania: 556th Men / 572nd Women
  • South America: 1320th Men / 1496th Women
  • Asia: 1956th Men / 2032nd Women
  • Africa: 3003rd Men / 3579th Women

Worldwide Quarterfinals

Comparing the Semifinal fields to the top 1000 finishers in the Worldwide Quarterfinals, all athletes from Europe and North America East, along with the women from the North America West, finished in the top 1000. The North American West men, Oceania, and South America had 90 percent or more of their athletes in the top 1000.

  • Europe: 40 Men / 40 Women
  • North America East: 40 Men / 40 Women
  • North America West: 39 Men / 40 Women
  • South America: 38 Men / 36 Women
  • Oceania: 37 Men / 37 Women
  • Asia: 24 Men / 35 Women
  • Africa: 15 Men / 13 Women

Semifinal Experience

The North American and European Semifinals have the largest number of returning athletes, which makes sense considering their field size dropped from 60 athletes to 40. Of the other four, the Asia Semifinal stands out, with 18 men and women returning from the 2023 season.

  • North America East: 26 Men / 27 Women
  • Europe: 27 Men / 25 Women
  • North America West: 24 Men / 18 Women
  • Asia: 18 Men / 18 Women
  • Oceania: 15 Men / 15 Women
  • South America: 15 Men / 11 Women
  • Africa: 11 Men / 9 Women

The Bottom Line

Overall, the numbers highlight the strength of fields in North America and Europe, which is to be expected given the maturity of the sport in those areas.

Once you dive into the numbers, though, it becomes clear that the other regions are gaining momentum as the sport grows globally.
