Mayhem to Host Live Event for 2024 “Everyday Hero Games”
Firefighters, law enforcement officers, educators, emergency and medical personnel, and those in the armed forces have been at the heart of CrossFit since its inception.
The Everyday Hero Games, presented by Mayhem, is a way to highlight and celebrate the fitness levels of those service members.
Remind me: In 2021, CrossFit HQ wanted to recognize these heroes with “The Occupational Games.” This virtual competition allowed athletes to fight for the title of fittest in their profession.
In 2022, CrossFit expanded the divisions to include even more everyday heroes.
However, in 2023, CrossFit announced it would no longer host the Occupational Games, which had traditionally fallen between Quarterfinals and Semifinals.

Enter Mayhem Nation: When HQ made this announcement, the CrossFit Mayhem crew decided to take action.
Jake Lockert, president of Mayhem Nation and director of Mayhem Athlete, credits Rich Froning for the idea to run a similar event of their own. That’s how Mayhem’s Everyday Hero Games was born.
In its inaugural year, athletes across six professions competed virtually for the title of “fittest” over three days.
This year, Mayhem’s Everyday Hero Games has two stages: the virtual stage, which took place May 1-6, and the in-person stage, when the top two athletes in each category represent their occupation in a live event on June 22 at CrossFit Mayhem in Cookeville, TN.
These athletes will form a team and compete across disciplines to find the fittest occupation.
- “We will aim to make improvements on the Everyday Hero Games each year,” Lockert told the Morning Chalk Up in an interview. “This year, we know we can put on a great experience here at CrossFit Mayhem.”
Each division features an Rx (“Chief”) and scaled (“Officer”) version of the workouts.
The top two of each profession in the “Chief” division receive the invite to compete at the live event. A portion of the travel costs will also be covered by Mayhem.
A good cause: This year’s competition features five professions of everyday heroes. All active Mayhem Athletes also received free access to the Everyday Hero Games by signing up here.
Community members can show support by buying a T-shirt representing one of the occupations at the Everyday Hero Games.
Mayhem is donating 100 percent of net proceeds to the following non-profit organizations:
- Military – Folds of Honor
- Firefighters – Tunnels to Towers Foundation
- Medical – Saint Jude
- Police – Hook A Hero
- Educators – Christian Educators

The big picture: The Everyday Hero Games are an extension of the Mayhem values and what Froning, Lockert, and their team love to do.
- “It falls in line with the aim to do something that hasn’t been done before for this community, and we all know everyone loves competing against each other, especially for a good cause,” Lockert explained.
The Mayhem team, including Lockert, Angelo Dicicco, and Games legend Rich Froning, created the programming for both competition stages. They aim to showcase the impressive fitness level of the amazing people serving our communities.
- “It will be uniquely tailored to our Everyday Heroes to really test their fitness and create for them some ‘fun’ workouts,” Lockert says.
The bottom line: The future is bright for the Everyday Hero Games, as the community showed immense support in its inaugural year. The Mayhem team looks to build on this success.
- “Last year, our goal was to fill the void that the Occupational Games left,” Lockert says. “We had an overwhelmingly positive response and aim to continue this year over year, building on our momentum.”
