The 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic (ASC) started with a bang in the Elephant Bar Deadlift event, where three-time ASC champion Hafthor Björnsson locked out over 1,000 pounds to take the event win before making a world record attempt.
The static strength feats continued into event two — the Overhead Gauntlet — which featured a monster dumbbell, a natural stone press, and a pair of heavy logs.

2025 ASC Overhead Gauntlet Recap
Athletes competed in reverse order. The dumbbell and stone lift were worth one point each, the heavier log was worth 10 points, and the lighter log was worth one point.
Boudreault was first to the stage and missed two attempts with the dumbbell before rechalking for a successful third lift. He dumped the stone press twice before time elapsed.
Guardione appeared to lift the dumbbell on his first attempt, but the judge did not feel he had established control. His second attempt, however, was clean. He failed to lift the stone and matched Boudreault with a single point.
Stoltman was third to the stage after landing eighth in the Elephant Bar Deadlift. The dumbbell wasn’t an issue, nor was the stone. He chalked up before going to the Austrian Oak (heavier log) but lost his balance on the first attempt. He failed his second attempt before locking out a rep with the lighter log.
Hatton cleared the first two events in 20 seconds. He locked out the first rep with the Austrian Oak and repeated that effort with 45 seconds remaining. Breathing heavily, he locked out a third rep in 1:48, which could be a factor in a tie-break situation.
Andrade moved slower than Hatton but cleared the dumbbell and stone in 40 seconds. He had a minute on the clock to lift the Oak. He secured one rep with 20 seconds to go. A failed second and third rep is all that was left in the tank.
Singleton turned on the jets when stepping on stage, making easy work of the dumbbell and stone in 30 seconds. After wobbling with the first rep on the Oak, he dumped it. He tried a second rep but missed before failing a rep with the lighter log as well.
Mitchell was smooth with the dumbbell and hitch-lifted the stone by the 30-second mark. He locked out the Austrian Oak thrice and would come down to a photo finish on time for tiebreaks.
Thompson had previously lifted the Austrian Oak for three reps and aimed to repeat that performance. He quickly completed the dumbbell but took time to rechalk for the stone. By the minute mark, he failed to lift the stone and had to shake off what seemed like dizziness continuously.
Hooper was the penultimate athlete to the stage, knowing Hatton’s time to beat. He was breezy through the dumbbell and stone by the 34-second mark. Hooper struggled through his first rep with the Austrian Oak but locked it out with a better time than Andrade.
Björnsson was the final athlete on the stage for the second event. He cleared the first two implements in 40 seconds and leveraged his leader’s advantage, moving straight to the lighter log for two reps to overtake Stoltman.
