The Sheffield Powerlifting Championships will return to Sheffield City Hall on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, in the Oval Hall of Sheffield City Hall. Twenty-four of the world’s strongest powerlifters — 12 male and 12 female — will converge in Sheffield, England, to lift against their respective weight class’s International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) raw total world record for the title of “champion of champions.”

Per the 2025 Sheffield press release, the competition was “launched in partnership with the IPF…[to] showcase the stars of powerlifting in a high-profile event with the largest prize fund in the sport’s history.” Regardless of weight class, the challenge of the 2025 Sheffield is simple: who can break the world record total by the greatest margin?

Qualifying for the 2025 Sheffield

To automatically qualify for the event, athletes must compete at the 2024 IPF World Championships, after which a select number will receive invitations to the 2025 Sheffield.

Tickets for the 2025 Sheffield are available at the time of this article’s publication via www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk.

2024 Sheffield Powerlifting Championship

The 2024 Sheffield was a bonanza of world records across the men’s and women’s divisions. Of the 24 athletes who competed in the 2024 Sheffield, 14 of them broke the raw total world records, and many others scored world records in one or more of the three big lifts — the squat, bench press, and deadlift.

Below is BarBend‘s coverage of the 2024 Sheffield won by Agata Sitko and Gustav Hedlund in the women’s and men’s divisions, respectively:
