Sarah Davies
The past several years have been stellar at a competitive level for Sarah Davies. In 2018, she earned a silver medal in the 69-kilogram weight class at the Commonwealth Games. In 2019, she claimed another silver medal at the British International Open and narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish at the European Championships.
One of her most significant achievements in 2020, however, came outside of competition. The English weightlifter was named the Chair of the IWF Athletes Commission, which allows athletes to voice in the IWF’s governance.
On Oct. 14, 2020, Davies started a petition to “help push for a vote of no confidence of the IWF Executive Board” in response to their decision to remove Ursula Papandrea from her position as IWF Interim President.
It was a bold move by Davies, but a brave one that she hopes will bring about positive change in the sports she loves.
