The 2022 Shaw Classic concluded on Aug. 14, 2022, in Loveland, CO, and saw America’s Trey Mitchell defend the title. Mitchell is now a two-time Shaw Classic champion in the contest’s three-year existence — the competition’s namesake, Brian Shaw, won the inaugural contest.
During the Bag Over Bar event on Day One of the 2022 Shaw Classic, Luke Stoltman injured his right shoulder when attempting to toss the third implement. On Aug. 17, 2022, Stoltman shared a behind-the-scenes look as to how the injury occurred and his experience with the physical therapist on the scene prior to his withdrawal from the competition. After bowing out of the Bag Over Bar event, moving his shoulder, signaling that something had gone awry, Stoltman laid on the on-site physical therapist’s table for diagnosis and adjustment. After wincing in pain through the adjustments, Stoltman better identified that the pain was coming from the top middle portion of his shoulder after “popping out” during the event.
While they didn’t specify which muscle he may have injured — difficult without any scans — it appeared to be somewhere in the medial delt region. The camera cut away to the locker room sometime later to Stoltman looking jovial despite the injury. Gabriel Rheaume inquired if the injured shoulder was the same one Stoltman performed the heavy dumbbell press with, and Stoltman confirmed that it was.

Stoltman disclosed that he knew heading into the Shaw Classic that he would not be at 100 percent. Due to other engagements that Stoltman committed to, he couldn’t devote as much time to train and prep for this show as he otherwise would have.
Stoltman suggested that he would return to the 2023 Shaw Classic in peak competition shape to put on a stronger performance.
