21.2 Livestream Numbers Surpass 21.1

21.2 kicked off Thursday night with the announcement of a repeat workout and around the world, thousands of viewers eagerly tuned in to watch Rookie of the Year, Justin Medeiros and Second Fittest Man on Earth, Samuel Kwant go head to head.

Not only did 21.2 bring a higher max concurrent viewership, it also brought significantly higher total viewership for the livestream over the course of about 24 hours.

• Max concurrent viewership increased by just over 10% for 21.2.
• Total viewership after approximately 24 hours also increased by 8%.

21.2’s viewership numbers are not only significant because of their increase overall, but also because they reflect the reversal of a longstanding trend of decreased viewership of Open livestreams after week 1.

• In 2020, viewership decreased by 60% going into week 2 of the Open.
• If we compare 20.2 views to 21.2, we see a 184% increase in total views after 24 hours.

One big thing: Adding 21.1 and 21.2 together, total viewership has reached 1,406,194, meaning that after just two workouts, livestream viewership is already at 76% of last year’s total viewership across all five workouts. It’s very probable that with only three announcements, 2021 with eclipse 2020 with five.

Aside from livestream numbers being significantly higher than last week and last year, registration for the 21.1 Open has also surpassed 2020 registration. This coupled with higher views of the 2020 CrossFit Games back in October, are all indicative of a positive trend for CrossFit Media and the future.
