3, 2, 1…Go:
This event was not won on the Ski Erg, or the rope climbs. Instead, it came down to the efficiency of the heavy overhead squats. The athletes who could move the barbell quickly and efficiently had the most success with this workout.
Men:
The battle for 100 points came down to the tie-break time, with both Peter Ellis and Issac Newman hitting 22 overhead squats bringing their total rep count to 68 for the event. However, first place went to Ellis who had the fastest tie-break time of 2:59, compared to Newman’s 3:15. Third place went to Dante Karangaroa who managed 17 overhead squats for a total of 63 reps.

Event 4 took place outside on The WOD Life field, with men and women throwing down side-by-side. Dark storm clouds loomed during the first two heats of this event before the rain began to fall during the third and final heat. The wetter conditions didn’t slow the athletes down, with the fastest men’s and women’s times coming from the third and most slippery heat.
This workout was a test of grip strength and shoulder fatigue. The athletes who managed their muscle fatigue most effectively produced the fastest times in this event. The final 20m slalom handstand walk became the largest roadblock for many athletes.
Men:
We saw a close race to the finish line in this workout, with Zac Thomas flying through the final 10m slalom handstand walk to take victory, over Zane Shellabear-Healey in second and Peter Eilis in 3rd. Luke De Jonge was in front for most of the final heat, but he struggled to finish his final 10m slalom handstand walk and ended up finishing sixth.
Results:
- Zac Thomas
- Zane Shellabear-Healey
- Peter Ellis
Women:
First place in this event went to Daisy McDonald. Nipping at her heels were Madeline Sturt (2nd) and Marnie Sykes (3rd). These top three athletes managed the wet conditions well and remained composed during the final slalom handstand walk.

3, 2, 1…Go:
This workout was simple and elegant–a couplet consisting of a heavy squat clean and high-skill gymnastics in the form of ring muscle-ups. The inclusion of ring muscle-ups added a layer of complexity and elegance to the workout. It wasn’t just a grunt-fest. To do well in this event, athletes needed to perform their ring muscle-ups efficiently and quickly.
Men:
Taking the event win from Heat 1 was Luke Fowler. Fowler hit all three sets of 10 ring muscle ups unbroken and accumulated a final score of 445kg (981 pounds) over the three rounds. Coming in second was Jonathan Dunlop with a total score of 442.5kg (975 pounds). We saw a draw for third, with Peter Eillis and Adam Mansy both lifting 440kg (970 pounds) over the three rounds.
Results:
- Luke Fowler
- Jonathan Dunlop
- Peter Ellis
Women:
Grit and determination were on display when the women took to the floor for Event 4. Here we saw a tie for first place with Anikha Greer and Taylor Williamson both lifting a total weight of 317.5kg (700 pounds) over three rounds. Grace Walton made several attempts at her final weight, before successfully standing up her final squat clean and bringing home third place with a total of 310kg (683 pounds).
