When Your Community Hates CrossFit
Background.
CrossFit Horsepower prides themselves on serving the community. Their website reads, “Each day at CrossFit Horsepower is a new adventure. A new challenge. A new chance to get to know your community, and to get to know yourself.”
But not everyone in Hermosa Beach, CA agrees. The city has received “numerous and continuous” complaints from neighbors since 2014. The charges range from noise, to vibrations, to shocks that some have even mistaken for earthquakes. They’ve even complained about athletes running in surrounding streets.
For reals?
CrossFit Horsepower has tried to combat these complaints by adding more mats, signs forbidding athletes from dropping their weights, and even removing the bass from the audio systems.
“Our facility is stocked with the finest equipment available, and every square inch of the premises exudes the level of luxury that the members of our community deserve.”
Enough is enough.
But the neighbors and the city have had it. The city will hold a public hearing to decide whether the complaints constitute a public nuisance and to discuss possible solutions, listing shutting down the business as a last resort.
