In June of last year, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Amazon had ordered a reboot of the competition series American Gladiators following successful reboots of both the Australian and UK versions.
- The show originally premiered in 1989 and was considered one of the first reality competition series, pitting amateur athletes against each other as they battled a cast of “gladiators” through various physical challenges and events.
In anticipation of the reboot, the show has now released its new cast, including one of the most well-known CrossFit athletes in the sport.
Five-time CrossFit Games competitor Dani Speegle will join the new cast of 16 gladiators, including five professional wrestlers.
- The Australian Gladiators reboot featured several CrossFit athletes from down under, including Khan Porter, Katelin van Zyl, Alethea Boon, and Harriet Roberts
Speegle was found through a cross-country casting search, where the goal was “to find a real cross-section of America’s fittest and fiercest competitors,” said Barry Poznick, general manager of MGM Alternative, Evolution Media, and Big Fish Entertainment in Variety.
- Worth noting: This isn’t Speegle’s first run on a physical competition show for a major TV network or streaming platform. In 2020, she and fellow CrossFit athlete Matt Chan won NBC’s hit show The Titan Games.

Speegle last competed as an individual at the CrossFit Games in 2024. She finished 36th.
- Her highest finish was 13th in 2020, and she is on the 2025 team roster for CrossFit Invictus, which finished 11th in the Team Semifinal and qualified for the Games.
Hosted by WWE Superstar Mike “The Miz” Mizanin, this version of American Gladiators will showcase some classic events from seasons past, like “Gauntlet,” “Hang Tough,” and “The Eliminator,” but be on the lookout for new and exciting twists.
The premiere date has not been announced yet, but episodes will be available to stream on Amazon Prime.
