Russian powerlifter Dmitry Nasonov is dominant in the sport in his home country. According to Open Powerlifting, Nasonov has never competed outside of Russia, but the weight he pulls stands with some of the best in the world.

A video of Nasonov was shared on the powerlifting subreddit, originally from AerinQQ’s YouTube channel, of Nasonov pulling a mind (and bar) bending 390kg (860lbs) raw at the World Raw Powerlifting Federation World Championship Finals in Moscow, Russia. What makes this particular lift so exceptional compared to any other big lifts?

Nasonov competes in the -83kg (183lbs) weight class, which means this 860lb deadlift was just shy of five times his competition bodyweight.

It was as smooth of a deadlift as you will ever see. Check it out for yourself here:

Nasonov’s successful 860lb deadlift was his second attempt. For his third and fourth attempts, Nasonov failed to pull 420kg (926lbs) each time (the fourth attempt in WRPF competition does not toward overall total if successful; only aim is to attempt to match or break records.) Had Nasonov been successful, he would have beaten the current all time world record of 400kg (882lbs) that he himself set at the WRPF World Championships in 2017.

He shared a picture on his Instagram page of his hands bloodied after the barbell slipped during a 420kg attempt. You can see his post here (viewer discretion advised).

The 27 year old Nasonov has competed twenty-four times over his six year career between the -74kg (163lbs) and -83kg (183lbs) weight classes. Of those twenty-four competitions, Nasonov won gold in eighteen of them.

Highlights include winning the World Powerlifting Congress Eurasian Championships seven times, a gold medal at the 2018 World Raw Powerlifting Federation World Championships, and his more recent win at the World Powerlifting Federation PROmotion Cup this past October.

The next world record and 900lb milestone seems to be on the horizon for Nasonov. We look forward to watching if and when he attempts it next.
