The 2025 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Classic Championships in Chemnitz, Germany, featured 15 world records across all weight categories. Among them was Sweden’s Alba Boström’s new total world record in the Women’s 63KG class.
The 2025 IPF World Classic Championships were Boström’s sophomore contest in the senior category. Her first was the 2025 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships, where she ranked 10th overall.
Boström’s performance in Chemnitz was not only a bountiful rebound from Sheffield but a record-altering one. She achieved a 565-kilogram world record total.
However, Boström does not believe a rebound and redemption are the same things. She intends to course-correct her 2025 Sheffield performance in 2026 as her victory in Chemnitz qualified her for the 2026 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships. She is the seventh athlete to secure her spot on that roster.
Even though I have a good meet now, it’s still not redemption for Sheffield because I can’t do that at any other meet.

Boström’s total world record was five kilograms more than Chiara Bernardi’s previous record of 560 kilograms and nine kilograms more than Boström’s previous best of 554 kilograms, which she scored at the 2024 IPF World Junior Championships in Malta.
