At the end of June, the bodybuilding industry was buzzing when established coach Abdullah Alotaibi announced that he was no longer working with 2019 Mr. Olympia winner Brandon Curry. Alotaibi made the news official and public in an Instagram post on Jun. 26, 2024. That post, as well as a portion of his statement, can be seen below:

“I coached Brandon. He’s truly a great guy and very humble and respectful,” wrote Alotaibi.
- “Any coach will be lucky to work with him. He’s very generous and a giving person. He even gave me 20 percent of the Olympia prize. Good luck, my brother, in your future, and whoever coaches you will be truly lucky to work with someone like you!”
On Jul. 1, 2024, Curry directly confirmed to BarBend that he and Alotaibi parted ways after working together since December 2016. Curry also confirmed that he is working with someone else but is not ready to share details.
Yes, we did part ways, but I can’t disclose the new coach.
There have also been social media rumors that Curry was contemplating retirement. However, he confirmed to BarBend that those rumors are false and still intends to compete in the 2024 Mr. Olympia contest.
I still plan on it.
As the 15th Mr. Olympia winner, Curry has lifetime qualification to compete in the Olympia. After five years, he would have to attain permission from the IFBB Pro League. Curry won the Sandow trophy in 2019, making the 60th Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas, NV, on Oct. 10-13, 2024, the fifth year of that eligibility.
Curry was fourth in the 2023 Mr. Olympia contest, finishing behind champion Derek Lunsford, runner-up Hadi Choopan, and bronze medalist Samson Dauda. Curry managed that placing despite being hospitalized days before the competition and having to be cleared to compete that weekend in Orlando, FL.
In 2023, the IFBB Pro League and Olympia promoters announced that only the top three would automatically qualify for the next year’s contest. Before 2023, it had been the top five finishers.
BarBend will share updates on this story as it develops.
