Two-time Classic Physique Olympia champion Breon Ansley has committed to the 2025 Classic Physique Olympia contest. The decision announced via Instagram post on July 9 was Ansley’s way of being a part of the 61st Olympia in Las Vegas, NV, on Oct. 9-12.
For the second consecutive season, Ansley’s decision to stay in the Classic Physique division is a reversal of his previous commitment to enter the 212 division. Ansley felt he was unable to prepare as he would have liked for his new category.
“I made the decision to compete in the 212 division this year.” Ansley wrote. “However, due to traveling and potential business opportunities, the process of preparing for the 212 got away from me.”
Ansley originally committed to the 212 division for the 2024 season. However, the IFBB Pro League changed the weight caps for the category, which are based on height. That decision led Ansley to compete in the 2024 Classic Physique Olympia instead. Ansley finished that contest in fifth place. Chris Bumstead won hiss sixth championship that season and retired onstage.
Ansley won the Classic Physique Olympia in 2017 and 2018. He is the only champion in the category who still competes. The vacancy of this title means Ansley may have his best chance of earning his third Olympia win.
Thanks to his previous Olympia victories, Ansley holds lifetime eligibility for the Classic Physique Olympia. However, it has been seven years since he won that championship, meaning he will need permission from the IFBB Professional League to enter without winning another pro contest to qualify. That is expected to happen, but no official statement has been made at the time of this article’s publication.
Standing between Ansley and the top spot in Las Vegas are several contenders looking for their first Olympia gold medals, including 2025 Arnold Classic Physique winner Mike Sommerfeld, who finished second to Bumstead in 2024, former Olympia runner-up and Arnold Classic Physique winner Ramon Rocha Queiroz, and Urs Kalecinski. The qualifying season will conclude on Sept. 14, 2205, which is when the Olympia roster will be finalized.
