Carola Garra (63KG) Sets All-Time World Record Raw Total of 557.5 Kilograms at 2023 IPF World Classic Championships

With Prescillia Bavoil competing at 69KG, Garra claimed gold with world record total.

The 2023 IPF World Classic Championships in St. Julian’s, Malta, saw another all-time raw world record fall. The competition, taking place from June 11-18, 2023, has already seen Natalie Richards eclipse the all-time raw world record in the 57-kilograms class with a total of 512.5 kilograms.

In the Women’s 63-kilogram category, gold-medalist Carola Garra of Italy set a new all-time world record raw total of 557.5 kilograms (1,229.1 pounds), exceeding the previous record held by France’s Prescillia Bavoil by a single kilogram.

2023 IPF World Classic Championships Results — Carola Garra, 63KG

Garra weighed in at an official 62.9 kilograms. Her performance comprised of eight successful attempts is below:

  • Squat
    • 195 kilograms (429.9 pounds)
    • 202.5 kilograms (446.4 pounds)
    • 207.5 kilograms (457.5 pounds)
  • Bench Press
    • 135 kilograms (297.6 pounds)
    • 142.5 kilograms (314.2 pounds)
    • 145.5 kilograms (320.8 pounds)
  • Deadlift
    • 192 kilograms (423.3 pounds)
    • 200 kilograms (440.9 pounds)
    • 207.5 kilograms (457.5 pounds)
  • Total — 557.5 kilograms (1,229.1 pounds) — All-Time World Record

Garra defeated the defending world champion Meghan Scanlon of the USA by a staggering 25 kilograms.

The previous all-time raw world record in the women’s 63-kilogram class was 556.5 kilograms, scored by France’s Prescillia Bavoil at the 2022 IPF Arnold Sports Festival. While Bavoil was also in Malta to compete in the 2023 IPF World Classic Championships, she competed in the 69-kilogram class, where she set an all-time world record raw squat of 211.5 kilograms.
 
Garra’s had the second heaviest-ever total at 63-kilograms entering the 2023 IPF World Classic Championships, thanks to her 546-kilogram total at the contest that Bavoil set the all-time world record.

Below are the final standings of the Women’s 63KG class in Malta:

  1. Carola Garra (ITA) — 557.5 kilograms
  2. Meghan Scanlon (USA) — 532.5 kilograms
  3. Chiara Bernardi (ITA) — 520 kilograms
  4. Joy Nnamani (GBR) — 505 kilograms
  5. Schae Zarew (AUS) — 482.5 kilograms
  6. Emily Zur Linden (CAN) — 472.5 kilograms
  7. Sahyuri Lalime (BEL) — 462.5 kilograms
  8. Pantea Supanetz (AUT) — 457.5 kilograms
  9. Esmee Dijjers (NED) — 455 kilograms
  10. Nataliia Zhukovska (UKR) — 445 kilograms
  11. Sheila Badaseraye (ESP) — 427.5 kilograms
  12. Zahra Al Ammar (KSA) — 415 kilograms
  13. Deshawn Larrimore (ISV) — 390 kilograms
  14. Renata Touma (BRA) — 385 kilograms
  15. Lorna Cachia (MLT) — 372.5 kilograms
  16. Megan Leighton (RSA) — 362.5 kilograms
  17. Angelika Szaro (POL) — 347.5 kilograms
  18. Sara Soto Guzman (THA) — 335 kilograms

The 2023 IPF World Classic Championships conclude on June 18, 2023. In addition to Garra, Richards, and Bavoil’s raw world records in the women’s categories, the 47-kilogram category saw Tiffany Chapon set a raw bench press world record in her gold-medal performance, and Heather Connor became the first 47-kilogram lifter ever to deadlift 200 kilograms — a raw world record. Additionally, Farhanna Farid set a new raw deadlift world record of 203 kilograms in the 52-kilogram class.
