Cheick “Iron Biby” Sanou Sets New Log Lift World Record of 230 Kilograms

Iron Biby broke his previous world record at the 2023 Giants Live World Tour Finals.

Cheick “Iron Biby” Sanou of Burkina Faso is in a battle with himself to propel the log lift world records to greater heights. Since claiming the all-time log lift world record at the 229-kilogram mark in 2021 — one kilogram more than the previous record set by four-time World’s Strongest Man (WSM) Žydrūnas Savickas — Iron Biby has been in a league of his own in the overhead strength event.

On Oct. 21, 2023, at the 2023 Giants Live World Tour Finals, Iron Biby raised the bar again, figuratively and literally. He locked out a new all-time world record log lift of 230 kilograms (507.1 pounds). Check out the lift in the video below, courtesy of the Giants Live STRONGMAN YouTube channel:

Although the world record log lift took place at the 2023 Giants Live World Tour Finals, Iron Biby was not on that contest’s roster. His world record lift occurred outside of the competition but during the first event: the Max Log Lift.

The closest lift to Iron Biby’s record at the event was two-time WSM champion Tom Stoltman’s 210-kilogram log press — enough for first-place points in the event. Stoltman leveraged the leader’s advantage gained via his event one win and converted it into three wins across five events and a World Tour Finals victory. Below are the results of the Max Log Lift event, including Iron Biby’s lift:
