Down Under CrossFit Championship Postponed
The latest Sanctional domino has fallen due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Down Under CrossFit Championship announced Monday that it would be postponing the event. The confirmed new date is July 3-5, 2020.
One big thing: Given the current landscape of the pandemic, the announcement should come as no surprise, however the chosen new date for the event means that more Sanctionals will be stacked up during the same handful of weekends in June and July.
- The weekend of July 3-5 will now play host to three separate events — the originally scheduled Mayan CrossFit Classic, the recently added Asia CrossFit Championship, and now the Down Under CrossFit Championship.
- June 26-28 will also host three events — the originally scheduled CrossFit French Throwdown, along with the rescheduled Reykjavik CrossFit Championship and Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge.
The total number now is 8: That’s how many Sanctionals have been postponed and/or rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a strong likelihood that more could follow suit in the coming weeks.
- CrossFit Inc. issued a letter Monday to all affiliates and the community, encouraging affiliates to reach out with concerns, and pledging to support affiliates by alleviating the financial burdens of affiliate fees in areas with government-mandated shutdowns.
The Morning Chalk Up is continuing to monitor the situation with all Sanctioned events, and the latest up to date schedule can be found here.
