CrossFit HQ Announces Lefteris Theofanidis And Emma McQuaid Win Open Workout 20.1

Lefteris Theofanidis And Emma McQuaid dominated CrossFit Open Workout 20.1.

CrossFit Athletes Lefteris Theofanidis and Emma McQuaid blew us all away with their impressive times and execution of CrossFit Open Workout 20.1. Now, both athletes can rest assured know that they are the official champions of the first workout of the 2020 CrossFit Open. By winning the CrossFit Open Workout 20.1, each athlete also gets awarded $2,020.00 U.S. dollars in prize money.

Here is a quick recap of each athlete’s dominant 20.1 workout. Also, if you forgot 20.1 here’s what the workout entailed:

CrossFit Open Workout 20.1

10 Rounds

  • 8 Ground-to-Overhead (95 lbs for men, 65 lbs for women)
  • 10 Bar Facing Burpees 

Time Cap: 15-minutes

Ground-to-Overhead entails using a snatch, muscle snatch, clean to press, or whatever means possible to get the bar from the ground to the overhead position. 

Theofanidis vs. 20.1

Theofanidis is Greece’s reigning National Champion and made his Reebok CrossFit Games debut at the 2019 Games. He completed 20.1 in 8:05

McQuaid vs. 20.1 

McQuaid is Ireland’s National Champion and qualified for her first Reebok CrossFit Games last summer. She ended up finished 21st overall at the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games. McQuaid finished 20.1 in a jaw-dropping 7:41. McQuaid actually did 20.1 twice in one day, and somehow managed to shed 16 seconds off her first attempt. Her score not only beat every women in the Open, but also all of the men!

Now that Open Workout 20.1 is done, we’re very much off to the races with Open Workout 20.2. 20.2 was announced this past Thursday and it is going to be interesting to see who tops the leader board this week! 

Open Workout 20.2 

20 minute AMRAP

  • 4 dumbell thrusters
  • 6 toes-to-bars
  • 24 double unders

Women: 35 lbs 

Men: 50 lbs
