If you’re not waking up chugging a green juice, rubbing your face with beef tallow, or using a smartwatch to track your REM cycle, are you even in the year 2025?

  • In all seriousness, the global consumer wellness industry has hit a boom in recent years, and it isn’t just short-lived fads. It has educated consumers who are looking for science-backed products that actually work.

This brings us to Lumen, the world’s first handheld metabolic coach that has proven results for weight loss and overall improved metabolic health. The Lumen is easy to use and just requires one deep breath into the device for a personalized metabolic reading.

The details: The Lumen is one key example of the latest science-backed devices sought after by health and nutrition-conscious consumers.

The consumer wellness landscape has been on an upswing since 2020, and Gen Z and millennials are leading the sales of wellness products and services.

  • McKinsey estimates that the wellness market has reached $480 billion in the U.S. alone— a 5-10% increase per year. On a global scale, the value is $1.8 trillion.

Consumers are seeking products just like Lumen that offer a deeper understanding of what’s going on inside their bodies.

The device measures an individual’s metabolism through breath using a CO2 sensor and flow meter. Once paired with the app, it tells them if they’re burning fat or carbs and gives them tailored guidance to improve all aspects of their health.

  • “Because your metabolism is at the center of everything your body does, optimal metabolic health translates to a bunch of benefits, including easier weight management, improved energy levels, better fitness results, better sleep, etc.,” according to Lumen.

Individuals are encouraged to measure their breath before and after meals and workouts for optimal readings.

  • The key to metabolic health is something called “metabolic flexibility,” which is where Lumen shines.

Lumen describes metabolic flexibility as your body’s ability to efficiently switch between using different fuel sources, like carbs and fats. There are preferred times to use each source, and an individual’s ability to switch between the two places them on a metabolic flexibility spectrum.

  • Once the Lumen has been used several times, it starts to understand the user and gives metabolic flex scores that can be tracked and improved over time.
  • “Lumen has logged 55 million metabolic measurements and are the leading experts on metabolic health,” according to information from the company. “The recommendations are science-backed and personalized to your measurements, so you know you’re doing what’s best for your body.”

For nutritional purposes, individuals should breathe into the Lumen first thing in the morning and get a clear reading of their metabolism for the day. After the morning reading, the Lumen gives a personalized nutrition plan for that day based on the measurements.

Oftentimes, people try out a range of diets and see what sticks. Instead of just playing the guessing game and diet roulette, Lumen gives people a clear picture of what their diet needs are and where to start.

  • Individuals who care about their health and fitness journey are seeking deeper insights into how their bodies work. Biomonitoring and wearables have become all the rage. Instead of just letting that information go in one ear and out the other, people are actually reacting accordingly and aiming to better their health.

One last thing: Lumen is validated by peer-reviewed scientific research and is a highly personalized approach to wellness that can cut out the questions and give data-driven answers about metabolic health and real results.
