Natalie Laalaai (+84KG) Sets IPF World Record Raw Deadlift of 268 Kilograms at 2023 IPF World Classic Championships

Laalaai broke the world record in each of her successful deadlift attempts in Malta.

Of all the IPF raw world records toppled at the 2023 IPF World Classic Championships in St. Julian’s, Malta, the most contested was the Women’s +84-kilogram deadlift. Although ranking in fifth-place overall via a 640.5-kilogram total, Natalie Laalaai of Australia captured a new IPF raw world record deadlift twice during the competition.

Laalaai left Malta with her name next to the heaviest IPF raw deadlift ever, 268 kilograms. Check out the world record lift via the video below, courtesy of the IPF’s Instagram page. She used a mixed grip and only showed a slight pause right before the lockout:

2023 IPF World Classic Championships Results — Natalie Laalaai, +84KG

Laalaai went eight for nine in attempts. She officially weighed in at 137.9 kilograms.

    • 232.5 kilograms (512.6 pounds)
    • 242.5 kilograms (534.6 pounds)
    • 250 kilograms (551.2 pounds)
  • Bench Press
    • 115 kilograms (253.5 pounds)
    • 120 kilograms (264.6 pounds)
    • 122.5 kilograms (270.1 pounds)
  • Deadlift
    • 258 kilograms (568.8 pounds)
    • 268 kilograms (590.8 pounds)
    • 275.5 kilograms (607.4 pounds)
  • Total — 640.5 kilograms

On Laalaai’s first deadlift attempt, she captured the then-IPF raw world record of 258 kilograms. It didn’t stand long as Sonita Muluh of Belgium, who set an IPF raw squat world record earlier, pulled 260.5 kilograms. Laalaai didn’t reach the podium, but she was not to be denied the world record deadlift, stepping back onto the lifting platform to lockout 268.5 kilograms. She attempted to further it on her third attempt, but it was not to be.
