The 2025 CrossFit Games season is well underway, with the Individual In-Affiliate Semifinals for elite individuals beginning this week.
Once the dust settles over the weekend and the leaderboard is finalized (by May 19), 11 more men and women will have tickets in hand for Albany, NY, later this summer.
Remind me: In-Affiliate Semifinals is an online track for athletes around the globe who finished in the top one percent of the Open to compete for a spot at the Games.
- It’s also important to note that some athletes have chosen to compete in In-Person Qualifying Events in addition to the In-Affiliate option. This has given some athletes multiple opportunities to qualify for the Games.
While many athletes will likely be doing these workouts alone or with a single training partner, PRVN Fitness is using this remote competition as an opportunity to bring together its elite athletes from across the U.S. and Oceania.
The training brand, established and owned by Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and her husband and PRVN head coach, Shane Orr, has created a thriving training and fitness community that also includes an affiliate located in Nashville, TN.
Kiefer Lammi, coach at PRVN Fitness, says he and the team are doing their best to treat the In-Affiliate event as an in-person competition experience.
- “I think in total, including the athletes that live here, we’re going to have 14 athletes on site. In addition, we’ve brought in a good chunk of our remote coaches as well, especially the coaches that coach some of the athletes that will be here,” Lammi told Morning Chalk Up in an interview.
The list of athletes includes:
- Ricky Garard | Maddie Sturt | Jay Crouch
- Kyra Milligan | Sydney Wells | Olivia Kerstetter
- Caroline Stanley | Anthonee Yim | Carson Wolfe
- RJ Mestre | Rylee Beebe | Brad Wilson
- Colten Mertens (not competing) | Emma Tall (not competing)
The details: The event takes place from Thursday, May 1, 2025, to Sunday, May 4. The workouts were released on Monday.
There are new rules for video review that athletes must follow for the In-Affiliate event, including detailed judging requirements and submission guidelines. Check out the 2025 CrossFit Games Rulebook here.
- “We’re going to sit down as a coaching team and kind of map out a schedule for it and do the best that we can to set up heats throughout the weekend where people feel like they have another one to two people going with them at a time so they get that competition excitement,” says Lammi.
While Lammi said most would prefer an in-person competition, he and the coaches at PRVN prepare their athletes for any test that may be presented to them.
- “We’re not the ones who get to choose how to qualify for the Games. We’re just the ones that need to be prepared to attack it and get ourselves through it regardless, and I think that’s the mindset that the athletes are taking,” he adds.
Lammi acknowledges the advantage that PRVN athletes gain by fostering a competitive environment for the event and facing off against fellow elite athletes. The workouts are also beyond anyone’s control, and those athletes and coaches who plan accordingly will be best prepared for a positive outcome.
There is no point in focusing on outside factors, Lammi added.
He teaches his athletes to focus on what they can control and disregard everything else. Given the importance of this qualifier, the plan is to exclude spectators from the workouts, allowing coaches and athletes to maintain complete focus.
- “Just because of the implications with trying to qualify people for the Games, we’re making it a little bit more closed off. And that’s not an intention to isolate from the community in any way,” Lammi said.
With only 11 spots available in each division from the In-Affiliate Semifinal, there is a lot at stake.
“This is just an attempt to make sure that we can control as many variables as possible so that we don’t have any issues on the back end with regards to reviews or anything else,” he said.
One last thing: Aside from individual In-Person Qualifying Events and In-Affiliate Semifinals, there is also a Last Chance Qualifier from June 13 to June 16, with one remaining spot on the line for both men and women. But no further details have been announced by CrossFit.
