PRVN Goes All-In on HYROX — And It’s Working

Written by Scott Freymond
Last updated on July 7th, 2025

Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and Shane Orr’s PRVN training camp continues to invest in the sport of HYROX, making significant efforts to promote the brand, develop athletes, and bridge the gap between competitive fitness and fitness racing.

Earlier this spring, we wrote about PRVN’s plans to “take over HYROX,” which included bringing on coach and elite athlete James Kelly.

  • Kelly is currently one of the most prominent athletes in the fitness racing community, balancing his time between coaching, training, and competing. Along with the Orrs and the PRVN team, they have built an impressive roster of competitors.

So, how is PRVN doing now, only two months later?

At the 2025 HYROX World Championships in Chicago, IL, PRVN made a major statement as over 80 athletes competed under the PRVN banner, including coach Kelly, who finished fourth in the Elite 15 Division with a time of 55:27.

Although she withdrew from the Elite Doubles Division due to illness, Toomey-Orr competed in the Mixed Doubles Division with James Newbury, finishing in 56:01.

Aside from Toomey-Orr, Newbury, and Kelly, here are some other names you’ll want to keep on your radar:

  • Joanna Wietrzyk – Young, driven, and eager for a title, Wietrzyk is known to many CrossFitters as Toomey-Orr’s doubles partner. However, she doesn’t need to rely on Toomey-Orr for fame once she crosses the starting line. In her rookie season, she broke the elusive one-hour barrier at the Hong Kong Majors with a time of 59:58 and went on to take second place at the World Championships with a time of 59:17.
  • Jess Pettrow – Pettrow delivered an outstanding performance earlier this year in Glasgow, where she achieved a PR time of 61 minutes. Along with fellow Australians Wietrzyk, Kelly, and Newbury, Pettrow secured the win in the Mixed Relay at the 2025 World Championships.
  • Luke Ennis – Young Ennis, just 18 years old, is making impressive progress in the sport. From Glasgow, Scotland, Ennis recently finished his first full season, placing 5th in his age group at the World Championships with a time of 1:01.55. Ennis is now catching the attention of brands and sponsors.
  • Lindsay Bessegato – Bessegato joins the ranks of athletes blending HYROX training with CrossFit. She trains at TeamLDN CrossFit in Ontario, Canada, and finished in the top 20 in her age group at the World Championships in June.

Along with its impressive roster, PRVN has expanded its commitment to the sport by launching a HYROX Affiliate Program, led by PRVN HYROX Affiliate head coach Carey Pearson.

There are two options available for gyms interested in adding HYROX programming.

  • The three-days-a-week option suits CrossFit affiliates or other functional fitness gyms that want to add HYROX workouts to their existing programming (PRVN or otherwise).
  • The seven-days-a-week option is for the “HYROX purists,” as Pearson describes them – gyms that mainly focus on HYROX training and racing.

Both options, especially the seven-day plan, adopt a comprehensive approach to training. Pearson utilizes his background as a CrossFit coach and programmer, combining speed, power, strength, and conditioning into mixed modal HYROX-style workouts.

In a standardized race with fixed distances and stations, training can become dull.

Pearson explains that while he knows there are other HYROX programs available, he values workouts that are not only effective but also engaging and motivating for athletes.

  • His program divides the HYROX season into five periodized training cycles, taking into account key race dates, with benchmark tests assigned to each cycle.

Currently, those participating in the program are in the first cycle of the year, as the World Championships recently concluded.

  • The current “Atlas Cycle” will last eight weeks and focuses on building an aerobic base and foundational strength, with benchmark tests including two mixed-modal HYROX-style workouts, a 5K run, and five-rep max deadlifts, push presses, and front squats.

In addition to the two tracks, “Pro,” “Open,” and “Foundational” levels are available, allowing athletes to find the best fit for their needs.

PRVN’s HYROX Affiliate Programming launched on June 16, and since then, Pearson and the PRVN team have received positive feedback from gyms that have already adopted it.

  • Pearson shared that one affiliate owner reached out, saying, “My athletes (even the initial [HYROX] haters) are loving your programming for HYROX, so I need to ensure I can get in on this”!
