Shane Nutt is a 19 year old college student at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. He claimed the title of national champion when he won the USA Powerlifting 2018 Raw Nationals in the 83kg class with an overall total of 705.5kg.
If that is not impressive enough, he just deadlifted 317.5kg (700lbs). He posted the epic feat on his Instagram page where he said matter of factly:
700lbs mixed grip PR. Proud of myself. Let’s go.
Check it out for yourself.
Nutt first appeared on the powerlifting scene in 2016 at USA Powerlifting’s Michigan Annual No Frills Qualifier. He took second competing in the -74kg class even though he weighed in at only 69.6kg (153.6lbs).
Since then, he has competed in fourteen more competitions and has placed first in ten of them. He has failed to make the podium only twice. These are unbelievable stats.
Nutt’s most recent competition was the International Powerlifting Federation University Powerlifting Cup this past July. He secured the gold in the deadlift with his 287.5kg (633lbs) opener, but injury (ankle) prevented him from putting up higher numbers that he had lifted in the past. He took fifth overall and summed up the experience in a post on his Instagram page.
Injury was a limiting factor to the amount that I was able to train and I got exactly what numbers I was able to work for this prep. I executed beautifully in the way that I was prepared for the meet, although I was only able to get my thirds from this meet to match my openers from Collegiate Nationals. It was very disappointing and weak performance but nonetheless an amazing experience here In Tartu, Estonia. Time to move forward, and get healthy and strong.

His future in the sport seems exceptionally bright assuming he stays healthy. We’re excited to see what massive pulls Nutt is able to accomplish in the competitive 2020 season.
