Taylor Atwood is considered one of the best 74KG powerlifters on the planet, but he took to the platform as an 83KG competitor at the 2024 Powerlifting America‘s Scary Strong 3 meet, where he totaled 830 kilograms, including a massive 342.5-kilogram deadlift — a new personal best.
Atwood has his current sights set on the 2025 Powerlifting America Raw Nationals on April 3-6, 2025, in Atlanta, GA. Atwood gave a glance of his squat training. Post warm-up, Atwood opens with four lighter squat sets, working up to a top weight of 225 kilograms, which he performed three sets of triples with, followed by a set of six.
Atwood’s best competition squat is 302.5 kilograms, achieved at the 2021 USAPL Raw Nationals. Atwood expressed that he was pleased with his work under the bar in the lead up to his return to the platform.
The three-time IPF world champion performed his accessory work, including belt squats for the quadriceps and two sets of standing leg curls per leg to target his hamstrings. He finished on the adductor machine.
Atwood stepping on the platform in Atlanta will be his first met in 2025 and his second in his new weight category. He missed the 2024 Powerlifting America Nationals, which kept him from competing at that year’s IPF World Championship contest.
Based on performance and enthusiasm during training, Atwood should be a contender for the win in Atlanta and the next time he competes on an international stage. He will be one of over 50 athletes in his weight class in Atlanta.
