On Saturday, we wrote that Sam Briggs announced her visa troubles on her Instagram page, which put her attendance at the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games in question. At that time, she wrote a long post disclosing the details and that she needed urgent help — time was of the essence in order to make athlete check-ins.
Fast forward to a couple days later (aka Sunday & early Monday), and Briggs took down the original Instagram post and many athletes and fans thought all hope was lost. In fact, if you go to a couple of her most recent Instagram photos, then you’ll see a strew of comments sending their regards as Briggs wouldn’t be attendance [from what they thought] at the 2018 Reebok CrossFit Games.
Well, all of that changed late last night when Briggs shared another Instagram post that highlights the fact that she had made it to the Games after all. In Briggs’ Instagram post’s description she writes, “When I thought there was absolutely no way I’d be competing this year all the stars aligned and I made it to Madison just in time for check-in”
“I’d like to send a massive thank you to the team at the Office of Field Operations within the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They helped me out of a huge jam and got me into the U.S. on time to compete in the @crossfitgames It wouldn’t have been possible without you!”
Briggs fans can now rejoice, as she’s made it to the Games safely and is ready to go. Remember, this year, Briggs is competing in the Masters division, as she had to withdraw from Regionals in late April after she announced that she had broken her elbow in training.
In 2016, Briggs also faced visa issues before the Games, and her attendance was in question at that time. Luckily then, she made it to those Games, and the same has happened for 2018. At the end of the day, what we know is her fans (along with us) are happy Briggs was able to pull it off and make it to yet another Reebok CrossFit Games.
