Hunter McIntyre and Rachel Schreiber Win 2021 HYROX Dallas Event

The champs have been crowned in Texas.

Fans and athletes of HYROX competitions have been anticipating their sport returning to competition. Like most sports around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic caused major disruptions in their season schedule. The organizers were able to hold their annual world championships in Germany in December 2020, and the HYROX Virtual Fitness Championships were also held in February of 2021. However, it’s the new season and in-person competitions that everyone was waiting for.

Their appetite for action was satiated on April 10, 2021, in Dallas, TX. The HYROX Dallas contest kicked off the 2021 season, and the competitors didn’t disappoint. Obstacle Racing Media provided live stream coverage on their YouTube channel for fans to watch live. In the end, it was Hunter McIntyre — the overall favorite — and underdog Rachel Schreiber who walked away with the wins in their respective divisions.

2021 HYROX Dallas Results

HYROX competitions alternate one kilometer runs with eight fitness challenges. The athlete that finishes the entire workout in the fastest time without penalties is the winner. Elite HYROX competitors finish the course in around an hour. This unique event challenges an athlete’s strength, muscular endurance, and power.

The workout for this specific competition is below. The weights listed are for the women and then men in that order.

  • 100 Meter SkiErg for Time
  • 2 x 25 Meter Sled Push for Time (275 pounds/385 pounds)
  • 2 x 25 Meter Sled Pull for Time (165 pounds/275 pounds)
  • 80 Meter Burpee Broad Jump
  • 1,000 Meter Row for Time
  • 200 Meter Farmer’s Carry (2 x 53 pounds/70 pounds)
  • 100 Meter Sandbag Lunge (45 pounds/66 pounds)
  • 100 Wall Balls (14 pounds/20 pounds)

Note: A one-kilometer run precedes each event.

Women’s Results

The favorite going into this event was Lauren Weeks — the 2021 HYROX world champion and virtual champion. In a surprising turn, Weeks finished in third place.

Rachel Schreiber won the overall contest by 84 seconds over second-place finisher Rebecca Hammond. Schreiber’s finished her first run in three minutes and 13 seconds, which was a strong start. She also took first place in the first two events and four out of the eight to clinch the victory.

Hammond started her contest with a run of three minutes and 11 seconds, but finishing the SkiErg phase of the contest with the seventh-fastest time put her behind, and the champion never looked back. Weeks rounded out the top three on the podium for this contest.

First Place: Rachel Schreiber, 1:06:46

Second Place: Rebecca Hammond, 1:08:10

Third Place: Lauren Weeks, 1:09:14

Men’s Results

The obvious favorite leading up to the contest was Hunter McIntyre, who’s the current world champion. “The Sheriff” dominated the competition and was the only athlete to finish in less than one hour. His longest one-kilometer run was at four minutes and three seconds. He also had a clean sweep with the fastest time in all eight events.

Finishing as the runner-up was fellow American David Magida, an obstacle course racer that is still new to HYROX competitions. He came in almost six minutes after McIntyre. His first run was his fastest, with a time of three minutes and five seconds. His best event of the day was the sled push, which he actually completed in the same time as his first run. Eric Hinman finished in the bronze position at this competition.

First Place: Hunter McIntyre, 58:08

Second Place: David Magida, 1:03:44

Third Place: Eric Hinman, 1:06:11

The next HYROX event is currently scheduled to occur on May 22, 2021, in Austin, Texas.
