The expected third and final event of Day One for the 2023 Rogue Strongman Invitational was a test of overhead strength. The “Ultimate Log Medley” challenged the 10 elite strongmen competing at the Dell Diamond Stadium in Round Rock, TX, to perform five total reps for time — two 320-pound Fingal’s Fingers and three 360-pound log presses.

However, the event was postponed until Day Two of the competition and changed to a max log lift — meaning that the second and last day of the strongman invitational was comprised of four events. Following the Iron Bull event, which only Mateusz Kieliszkowski was able to complete, 2023 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) champion Mitchell Hooper held a secure lead atop the leaderboard and only needed to play defense for the remaining four events.

2023 Rogue Invitational Strongman Event Four Recap — “Max Log Lift”

Luke Stoltman stepped up to his signature event in the concourse at the Dell Diamond Stadium. He knew the seven reps set by Boudreault was the mark to beat. Stoltman’s first three reps were as clean as expected. His fourth and fifth reps were just as smooth. He locked out a sixth after confirming everything looked good with the judge. An efficient seventh rep was met by a roar to the crowd, and then an event-leading eighth rep.

Thomas Evans was third to the log. His first lockout was a near miscommunication with the judge, as Evans’ momentum was downward before the down signal was given. By his fifth rep, Evans took a quick break before effectively strict pressing a sixth rep. He tied Boudreault’s seven reps with 20 seconds left on the clock. Rep eight goes up clean before a desperately winded Evans falls to his knees.

Thompson stepped up fourth, ready to attack his best event. His movement was efficient through four reps and 30 seconds. Rep six was locked out with 40 seconds on the clock. Thompson’s seventh rep looked strong, though he needed a break before locking out an eighth rep to tie for the lead.

With so many athletes tied at eight reps and eating into the same points, Novikov knew that hitting nine reps was worth more than a single rank difference on the leaderboard. Novikov held a steady cadence through four reps, though took a break at 40 seconds. A steep fifth rep appeared as though the tank was close to empty, and a gutsy sixth rep looked clean but wasn’t given.

Kieliszkowski stepped up to the log with a two-event win streak. A tedious pair of opening reps were clean. He took a quick break after every rep, releasing the log each time. He only had four reps by the halfway mark. With only 10 seconds left, he locked out a seventh rep and missed his eighth rep attempt. It seemed his pacing was the issue, not his strength.

Tom Stoltman had a target to beat in one of his most improved events in the past year. He lifted a brisk three reps in 20 seconds, five reps in 30 seconds, seven reps in 45 seconds, and an eighth rep in 55 seconds. Rep nine went up at 1:08, and he continued his blistering pace to hit double digits.

Singleton has the information advantage as the penultimate athlete in the lineup. Ten reps is a high mark to match, but Singleton knew the target as he hyped himself up. A tough strict rep on the opener was clumsy, but the second rep looked much smoother. The third rep was the same as the second. After four reps, it seemed as though Singleton wanted to move at a pace that wasn’t sustainable. A no-rep on the sixth rep for a lack of balance was devastating — he missed his sixth rep follow-up and bottomed out of the event.

Hooper was last to the log. Given his advantage heading into the event, he knew the mark to remain in the lead was nine reps. Hooper held a tight pace by not releasing the log between reps. He secured five reps before the 30-second mark and then took a 10-second break. Reps six and seven were successful. The critical eighth rep failed but was recovered and scored. A ninth rep attempt was lapped at 1:28 — a successful clean and a tough lockout was awarded for a ninth rep.
