Gavin McNamee Wins 2023 UK’s Strongest Man U90KG

McNamee defeated 10 other elite U90KG strongmen for the crown.

The 2023 UK’s Strongest Man U90KG occurred on Sept. 3, 2023, in North Lincolnshire, UK. Eleven of the top strongmen in the 90-kilogram weight class clashed through five events: Max Log Lift, Deadlift Ladder, Loading Race, Super Yoke, and Sandbag Loading.

When all was said and done, Gavin McNamee of Ireland emerged victorious with 50 of a possible 55 points. Below are the final standings:

2023 UK’s Strongest Man U90KG Results

  1. Gavin McNamee (Ireland) — 50 points
  2. Mark Cummins (England) — 44 points
  3. Neil Anderson (Scotland) — 41.5 points
  4. Lewis Bolton (England) — 37 points
  5. Michael Sillis (England) — 34.5 points
  6. David Millett (England) — 29.5 points
  7. Thumpa Todd (Wales) — 22.5 points
  8. Luke Young (Scotland) — 21.5 points
  9. Bradley James (Wales) — 18.5 points
  10. David Armstrong (UK) — 13.5 points
  11. Rob Nixon (England) — 10.5 points — withdrew

Below are the results of each of the individual events contested in North Lincolnshire:

Max Log Lift

Athletes lifted in rounds with 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 145, 150, 155, and 160-kilogram logs.

  1. Neil Anderson — 130 kilograms
  2. Gavin McNamee — 120 kilograms (T-second)
  3. Mark Cummins — 120 kilograms (T-second)
  4. Lewis Bolton — 120 kilograms (T-second)
  5. Michael Sillis — 120 kilograms (T-second)
  6. David Millett — 100 kilograms (T-sixth)
  7. Thumpa Todd — 110 kilograms (T-sixth)
  8. Luke Young — 110 kilograms (T-sixth)
  9. Bradley James — 110 kilograms (T-sixth)
  10. David Armstrong — 110 kilograms (T-sixth)
  11. Rob Nixon — 110 kilograms (T-sixth) 

Deadlift Ladder

Each athlete attempted to deadlift 240, 260, 280, 300, and 320 kilograms in the fastest possible time.

  2. Thumpa Todd — Three in 16.34 seconds
  3. David Millett — Three in 18.26 seconds
  4. Neil Anderson — Three in 19.23 seconds
  5. Michael Sillis — Three in 21.31 seconds
  6. Mark Cummins — Three in 30.74 seconds
  7. Lewis Bolton — Three in 31.24 seconds
  8. Bradley James — Two in 17.65 seconds
  9. Rob Nixon — Two in 23.73 seconds
  10. Luke Young — Two in 27.87 seconds
  11. David Armstrong — Two in 31.47 seconds

Loading Race

Across a 10-meter course with a 90-second time cap, each athlete was tasked to load implements weighing 180, 125, and 120 kilograms.

  1. Gavin McNamee — Three in 22.4 seconds
  2. Lewis Bolton — Three in 24.26 seconds
  3. Mark Cummins — Three in 25.89 seconds
  4. Neil Anderson — Three in 26.82 seconds
  5. Luke Young — Three in 26.85 seconds
  6. David Millett — Three in 28.07 seconds
  7. Michael Sillis — Three in 30.04 seconds
  8. Bradley James —Three in 31.24 seconds
  9. Rob Nixon — Three in 31.61 seconds
  10. Thumpa Todd — Three in 31.79 seconds
  11. David Armstrong — Three in 41.97 seconds

Super Yoke

With 60 seconds on the clock, each strongman carried a 360-kilogram yoke down the 20-meter course.

  2. Mark Cummins — 13.82 seconds
  3. Neil Anderson — 43.53 seconds
  4. Lewis Bolton — 14.7 meters
  5. Michael Sillis — 29.44 seconds
  6. David Millett — 26.69 seconds

  8. Luke Young — 14.2 meters
  9. Bradley James — 29.72 seconds
  10. David Armstrong — 11.2 meters
  11. Rob Nixon — withdrew

Sandbag Loading

Athletes had one minute to load a 140-kilogram sandbag to a 1.27-meter tall platform as many times as possible.

  4. Lewis Bolton — Four reps (T-first)
  5. Michael Sillis — Three reps
