IWF Releases 2024 Paris Olympic Games Qualification Ranking Leaderboards

The OQR leaderboards will be updated after each qualification event.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games are scheduled for July 26 through August 11, 2024, in Paris, France, and will feature an athlete quota of 10,500 of the world’s best. The stadiums holding athletic contests include Stade de France, Jardins du Trocadéro, and River Seine.

On Jan. 20, 2023, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) released a leaderboard for Olympic Games qualifications. The leaderboard boasts the highest-scoring athlete from each National Olympic Committee (NOC) in each bodyweight category. The leaderboard will be updated following each qualification event.

Per the IWF leaderboard, “the highest Total achieved by each athlete at qualification events will be counted towards their overall ranking. In the circumstance that two, or more, athletes record the same Total in the same Olympic bodyweight category, they shall be ranked in order of which achieved the result first, using equivalent Greenwich Mean Times (GMT) to decide such if necessary.”

At the time of this article’s publication, the only listed qualification event included is the 2022 IWF Senior World Championships. Among the leaderboard are five weight categories for male weightlifters and five weight categories for female weightlifters. Those 10 weight categories currently on the 2024 Paris Olympic Games program are:

Male Weight Categories

  • 61 kilograms
  • 73 kilograms
  • 89 kilograms
  • 102 kilograms
  • +102 kilograms

Female Weight Categories

  • 49 kilograms
  • 59 kilograms
  • 71 kilograms
  • 81 kilograms
  • +81 kilograms

The athlete quota for weightlifting at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games is 120 total (60 male athletes, 60 female athletes) divided as such:

  • Olympic Qualification Ranking — 10 quota places per category | 50 male athletes, 50 female athletes (100 total)
  • Continental Representation — one quota place per event | five male athletes, five female athletes (10 total)
  • Host Country Quota (France) — one quota place per event | two male athletes, two female athletes (four total)
  • Universality Places — one quota place per event | three male athletes, three female athletes (six total)

The maximum number of athletes from the same NOC eligible to compete in the same weight category is three. If more than three athletes from the same NOC have qualified for a weight category, the NOC will decide which eligible athletes will represent them at the Games. The Olympic Qualification System (OQS) for weightlifting was released on Dec. 10, 2022, and can be seen on the IWF’s website: https://iwf.sport/qualif2024/P2024_Qualification/
