2024 Rogue Strongman & Strongwoman Invitational Event 2 Results

The second event in the debut strongwoman contest at the Rogue Invitational was the Grip and Press. Lucy Underdown aimed to keep the momentum from her Deadlift Ladder event win earlier in the morning. Likewise, Hafthor Björnsson hoped his dominance in static strength from event one would also transfer to a farmer’s carry and log lift medley.

The strongmen ran the event simultaneously. Although different competitions, one strongman and one strongwoman ran in head-to-head heats on the P&J Live competition floor in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Inez Carrasquillo and Thomas Evans won the event. Carrasquillo was one of only three strongwomen to convert all three log presses, and Evans beat Mitchell Hooper by two one-hundredths of a second.

2024 Rogue Invitational Grip and Press Recap

Kordiyaka and Belliveau opened event two in the first heat. The log for the men weighed 380 pounds. Though he was fast to his first rep on the log, he failed his second before appearing to suffer a cramp in his leg that slowed him significantly.

Belliveau couldn’t lift the 260-pound log, which is heavier than her personal best. Kordiyaka finished with two of the three reps on the log before the time cap horn blared.

Hoath and Moore entered the floor together for heat two. They both blitzed the farmer’s carry, but only Hoath rushed straight to the log. Neither successfully locked out the log on their first attempts. Moore made no subsequent attempts. Hoath narrowly missed his second attempt but did lock out his third.

Luke Stoltman and Hannah Linzay ran together in heat three. Stoltman cleared the 250-pound farmer’s carry smoothly, as did Linzay with 225 pounds in hand. Stoltman is a notoriously strong presser who locked out two reps with speed. He failed the third attempt but successfully locked it out to stop the clock at 1:58.86. Linzay never attempted the log.

Tom Stoltman and Melissa Peacock ran in heat four. Their buzzer indicated the heat’s start, but neither athlete heard it. By the time they ran the heat, they were 22 seconds in. Stoltman blitzed the event, clearing all three reps on the log cleanly. Commentary confirmed that times would be adjusted for the athletes’ lack of clarity regarding when the heat started.

Evans and Roberts stepped out for heat five. They both cleared the farmer’s carries by the 10-second mark. Roberts cleaned the log twice but couldn’t press it overhead. Evans cleared all three log reps without hesitation or mistake.

Singleton and Jardine ran heat six. Singleton’s signature aggression sped through the farmer’s carry, though a slight stumble in the conversion cost him valuable seconds. He cleared all three logs with a missed attempt in between. The crowd cheered on Jardine, the first strongwoman to lock out the log, and did so twice.

Inez Carrasquillo

Thompson and Carrasquillo ran heat seven, making quick work of the farmer’s carries. Carrasquillo made easy work of the log lift to become the first strongwoman to clear all three reps. Thompson, who is typically exceptional in the log press, caught a snag somewhere and failed to complete all three reps before waiving off the field before the time cap was reached.

Ragg and Liashchuck were paired for heat eight. They hopped through the farmer’s carry, and Ragg quickly converted a first log lift but then dropped his second before receiving the down command from the judge before securing the follow-up attempt. Liashchuck was slow on the log but did lock out two of three reps.

Hooper and Andrea Thompson raced in the penultimate heat. Hooper completed the carry in eight seconds before a sloppy but successful first log press. Thompson went rep-for-rep with Hooper, and they both completed the full event.

Björnsson and Underdown were featured in the closing heat. Björnsson lumbered through the farmer’s carry, knowing that completing the event would keep him toward the top of the leaderboard. Underdown failed her first log as Björnsson maintained his methodical approach.

Björnsson failed his second attempt as Underdown could not score a single log press.
