The Timber Trial was the penultimate event for the 2025 Arnold Strongman Classic (ASC). The 10 invited strongmen were challenged to carry two heavy logs across the course to a sled, which then pulled back to the starting line in the fastest time possible.
Mitchell Hooper had a 2.5-point lead entering the event, hoping to hold the line to a three-peat in Columbus. Lucas Hatton, in his ASC debut, was putting on a show, giving Hooper the closest run for the top of the podium, having scored two wins in four events.

2025 ASC Timber Trial Recap
Guardione was the first to the floor for the strongmen. He loaded the logs by 18 seconds and heaved the sled until momentum gave out. He hitched the sled across the finish over the 50-second mark.
Thompson was second to the stage and wore sunglasses to prevent light from disorienting him while leaning back during the sled pull. He had consistent pacing throughout the course but was slower than Guardione overall.
Stoltman made easy work of the logs, and his height offered exceptional leverage when dragging the sled. He set the time to beat at just under 38 seconds.
Singleton brought his signature aggression to the course but didn’t seem pleased with his pace once across the finish line. He knew his time wouldn’t oust Stoltman’s before the timekeeper told him his position.
Andrade was the midway athlete on the course. He pulled the sled by the 22-second mark and was steady from start to finish. His step speed during the pull was too incremental to garner significant points but was enough to overtake Singleton.
Mitchell followed Andrade. While his pacing was steady, it wasn’t quick, keeping him toward the bottom half of the field. Still, performing well in this type of event was a significant triumph after recovering from a torn Achilles just over a year prior.
Björnsson knew this event favored him given his huge height advantage, and he wasted no time. He blitzed the course in just over 30 seconds and set the new time to beat.
Hatton ran the penultimate heat, hoping to dent the 2.5 margin between him and Hooper. His pace was aggressive, but the leverage Björnsson had as the taller athlete compared to Hatton, a much shorter athlete, was glaring seeing them back-to-back.
Hooper knew Hatton’s time before taking the course and knew there was an opportunity to post some distance with one event remaining if he could score a win or, at least, best Stoltman’s time. While Hooper’s run wasn’t fast enough to overtake Björnsson, it was enough to tack some additional points onto his overall lead.
