With four In-Person Qualifying Events (IPQE) and the In-Affiliate Semifinals behind us, we’re starting to see what the rosters for this summer’s CrossFit Games will look like.
So far, eight men and eight women have officially qualified for Albany, NY via an IPQE.
Men – Officially Qualified via IPQE | Women – Officially Qualified via IPQE |
---|---|
Austin Hatfield | Fee Saghafi |
Colten Mertens | Abbie Domit |
Kalyan Souza | María Quintero |
Henrique Moreira | Luiza Marques |
Roman Khrennikov | Lucy Campbell |
Moritz Fiebig | Seung Yeon Choi |
Bronislaw Olenkowicz | Claudia Gluck |
Calum Clements | Lucy McGonigle |
Furthermore, although the In-Affiliate Semifinals leaderboard remains unofficial until the completion of the video review process, the following 11 men and women will receive invites if CrossFit validates their videos:
Men – Unofficially Qualified via In-Affiliate Semifinals | Women – Unofficially Qualified via In-Affiliate Semifinals |
---|---|
1. Jeffrey Adler — 13 | 1. Arielle Loewen — 31 |
2. Jay Crouch — 27 | 2. Siria Meha — 38 |
3. Dallin Pepper — 45 | 3. Alexis Raptis — 41 |
4. James Sprague — 54 | 4. Olivia Kerstetter — 58 |
5. Tudor Magda — 56 | 5. Anikha Greer — 62 |
6. Jayson Hopper — 57 | 6. Caroline Stanley — 80 |
7. Ricky Garard — 62 | 7. Brooke Wells — 84 |
8. Justin Medeiros — 67 | 8. Madeline Sturt — 87 |
9. Enrico Zenoni — 81 | 9. Danielle Brandon — 92 |
10. Colin Bosshard — 83 | 9. Haley Adams — 92 |
11. Harry Lightfoot — 92 | 11. Grace Walton — 93 |
Ultimately, this means 63% of this year’s CrossFit Games field has already been determined unofficially, leaving only 11 men’s and 11 women’s spots to complete the 30-person rosters.
- Considering three of the remaining six IPQEs are regionally restricted, opportunities are dwindling for athletes still hoping to compete in Albany in August.
With that being said, here are six athletes we expect to qualify for this summer’s Games who are yet to earn their invite.
Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr
The 2025 season roadmap remains unclear for the seven-time CrossFit Games champion.
- We know that Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr has committed to competing in the HYROX season. Although she didn’t participate in the In-Affiliate Semifinals last weekend, she announced last month that she will compete at Torian Pro in Brisbane, Australia, and IPQE in May.
That said, Toomey-Orr also mentioned in a YouTube video that the Torian Pro will serve as a time for her to say “goodbye to this chapter.”
- “In May, I’m taking the floor at Torian Pro, but this time, it’s different. This time, it’s my moment to say goodbye to this chapter,” Toomey-Orr said. “This sport has given me everything, every challenge, every triumph, and, most importantly, the incredible community that surrounds it.”
Does that mean she’s retiring and won’t compete at the Games even if she qualifies via the Torian Pro? Either way, we can’t imagine she won’t punch a ticket to Albany in Brisbane.
Alex Gazan
The three-time Games veteran decided to forego the In-Affiliate Semifinals last weekend for several reasons.
First, Gazan said she wanted to be well-rested and recovered for this weekend’s World Fitness Project (WFP) Tour Event I in Indianapolis, IN.
- Second, she and her coach, Justin Cotler, decided it “wasn’t worth going through the stress and the chaos of an online competition,” Cotler told the Morning Chalk Up.
That being said, Cotler insists Gazan is fitter than she has ever been and is putting all her eggs in one basket: the Northern California Classic in Sacramento, CA, in June, the final IPQE of the season.
Emily Rolfe
Emily Rolfe, last year’s Third Fittest Woman, narrowly missed qualifying for Albany through the Mayhem Classic. The five-time Games veteran finished third, just one spot and five points below the cutline.
Like Gazan, Rolfe didn’t compete in the In-Affiliate Semifinals. Still, she also told the Morning Chalk Up after the Mayhem Classic that she plans to compete at the Northern California Classic.
- Rolfe has also received an invitation to compete at the Fittest Experience Invitational in Oklahoma City, OK, on May 16-18; however, it’s the weekend after this weekend’s WFP event, so recovery might be a factor. The TFX official roster has not yet been confirmed.
Sam Kwant
Seven-time Games veteran Sam Kwant always seems to find a way to qualify, but unless a significant number of penalties are issued, it doesn’t appear he will earn his invite through the In-Affiliate Semifinals, as he finished 17th overall, 18 points away from the cutline.
- That said, Kwant has at least two more opportunities to earn his eighth invite to the Games: The Fittest Experience, for which he has already received an invite, and the Northern California Classic in June.
Worth noting: Neither the Torian Pro nor the Far East Throwdown in Busan, Korea, has regional restrictions, so they could also invite Kwant; however, it’s probably more likely that he would choose to compete in one or both of the North American events.
Jonne Koski
After competing at the Games nine times between 2014 and 2023, Jonne Koski missed qualifying last season by just one spot out of the Europe Semifinals.
- It seemed like a mere hiccup in his career, but more recently it happened again: Koski finished third at Wodland Fest in Málaga, Spain, again missing a Games invite by one spot.
Currently, Koski is in 12th place on the In-Affiliate Semifinals leaderboard. If this status remains when the leaderboard is finalized, he will once more miss out by one spot.
This means Koski still has three theoretical chances to qualify for this summer’s Games—if he receives an invitation—at the Northern California Classic, the Torian Pro, or the Far East Throwdown.
And, of course, there’s always the Last Chance Qualifier (CrossFit has yet to release details about who is eligible to compete for the final spot at the Games on June 13-16).
Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson
Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson finds himself in a situation similar to Koski. The 11-time Games athlete is currently ranked 22nd on the In-Affiliate Semifinals leaderboard.
- Guðmundsson has yet to compete at an IPQE this season, and his four theoretical opportunities to secure a spot at the CrossFit Games are the same as Koski’s: the Northern California Classic, the Torian Pro, the Far East Throwdown, and the Last Chance Qualifier.
The Big Picture
Once the In-Affiliate Semifinals leaderboard becomes official, 19 of the 30 men’s and women’s spots at this summer’s CrossFit Games will be filled.
With only 11 spots remaining on each side, six athletes we predict will have a chance to qualify for Albany (should they choose to try) are Toomey-Orr, Gazan, Rolfe, Kwant, Koski, and Gudmundsson.
