Weightlifters Mattie Rogers and Jourdan Delacruz are no strangers to the spotlight. Both are internationally competitive lifters, likely Olympic team members for the Tokyo Games, and American record setters. The highlights of their resumes speak for themselves:
Mattie Rogers (25 years old)
- 2017 Weightlifting World Championships Silver Medalist
- 2019 Weightlifting World Championships Silver Medalist
- Multi-time Pan American medalist
Jourdan Delacruz (22 years old)
- 2018 Junior Weightlifting World Championships Silver Medalist
- 2019 Pan American Championships Gold Medalist
- 2020 Rome IWF World Cup Champion
But what happens when they step into the role of coach? How about as color commentators?
In a special collaboration between USA Weightlifting and BarBend, Mattie and Jourdan joined BarBend CEO David Tao, along with USAW leaders JP Nicoletta and Pedro Meloni, to break down some of the top lifts from the American Open Series 1 competition. (This meet also doubled as University Nationals.) The meet was a first-of-its-kind hybrid event, where athletes could choose to compete in person in Salt Lake City or remotely at their homes or local gyms.
The group discussed the lifts in detail, including technical elements, coaching decisions, and a lifter’s mindset as they step onto the platform. You can watch the full broadcast below:
