The 2022 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Classic Championships in Sun City, South Africa, witnessed another IPF world record fall. This time, it was in the hands of 83-kilogram lifter Asein Enahoro of Hungary. On his second deadlift attempt, Enahoro successfully locked out a raw IPF world record of 362.5 kilograms (799.2 pounds) en route to a bronze medal. Here were Enahoro’s results:

2022 IPF World Championships — Asein Enahoro | 83KG

  • Squat
    • 255 kilograms (562.2 pounds)
    • 267.5 kilograms (589.7 pounds)
    • 272.5 kilograms (600.8 pounds)
  • Bench Press
    • 132.5 kilograms (292.1 pounds)
    • 140 kilograms (308.7 pounds)
    • 145 kilograms (319.7 pounds)
  • Deadlift
    • 345.5 kilograms (761.7 pounds)
    • 362.5 kilograms (799.2 pounds) — IPF World Record
    • 385 kilograms (848.8 pounds)
  • Total — 780 kilograms (1,719.6 pounds)

Per the coverage on the Olympic Channel, Enahoro’s previous personal best deadlift was 352.5 kilograms (777.1 pounds). Check out his new IPF raw deadlift world record in the video below, courtesy of Weightlifting School‘s YouTube channel:

Enahoro’s third deadlift attempt is also shown in the video. He called for 385 kilograms ( pounds) on the barbell — 22.5 kilograms more than the IPF world record he set moments before to potentially leap into first place overall. He got the barbell above his knees, but the grip of his left hand didn’t hold to secure the down call from the judge.

Enahoro’s IPF world record deadlift surpassed the previous IPF world record of 336 kilograms (740.8 pounds), also held by Enahoro. According to Open Powerlifting, Enahoro scored that lift at the 2021 IPF World Classic Championships, ranking 12th overall. His new IPF world record raw deadlift was 4.4 times his official bodyweight of 82.25 kilograms.

2022 IPF World Championships Results | Men’s 83-Kilograms

Below are the full results of the Men’s 83-kilogram category:

  1. Delaney Wallace (USA) — 802.5 kilograms (1,769.2 pounds)
    • Squat — 295 kilograms (650.4 pounds)
    • Bench Press — 192.5 kilograms (424.4 pounds)
    • Deadlift — 315 kilograms (694.5 pounds)
  2. Jurins Kengamu (GBR) — 787.5 kilograms (1,736.1 pounds)
    • Squat — 295 kilograms (650.4 pounds)
    • Bench Press — 172.5 kilograms (380.3 pounds)
    • Deadlift — 320 kilograms (705.5 pounds)
  3. Asein Enahoro (HUN) — 780 kilograms (1,719.6 pounds)
    • Squat — 272.5 kilograms (600.8 pounds)
    • Bench Press — 145 kilograms (319.7 pounds)
    • Deadlift — 362.5 kilograms (799.2 pounds)

Had Enahoro successfully hit his third deadlift attempt, he would have broken the IPF raw deadlift world record again and tied Wallace for first place overall. Had that happened, Enahoro would have been awarded the gold medal via tiebreaker for having a lighter bodyweight. Wallace weighed in officially at 82.4 kilograms versus Enahoro’s 82.25 kilograms.

The 2022 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships conclude on June 11, 2022
