USA Weightlifting Announces Final 20 Athletes for World Championships Team

Written by Jake Boly, CSCS
Last updated on August 1st, 2023

Over the weekend, USA Weightlifting announced the final roster for this year’s IWF World Championships team. This year, the Championships are being held on American soil in Anaheim, California, from November 28th-December 5th. USA Weightlifting will travel with 20 total athletes, 16 who will compete (8 per gender), along with four alternates (2 per gender).

The final 16 to compete will be announced prior to the Verification of Final Entries, which is set to take place on November 26th. If you’re interested in checking out the preliminary schedule, then visit this link. In addition, BarBend will be presenting color commentating during a few of the weight classes, so if you’re around, stop by and say hello!

Below are the full lists of the male and female athletes who have been announced as part of the World Championships team.

3. Angelo Bianco – 77kg – Average Broz Gymnasium

10. Cain Wilkes – +105kg – Little League Weightlifting

Women

1. Alyssa Ritchey – 48kg – Team Juggernaut
2. Caitlin Hogan – 53kg – Waxman’s Gym

8. Marissa Klingseis – 90kg – Wesley Weightlifters
9. Ali Ludwig – 90kg – Waxman’s Gym
10. Sarah Robles – +90kg – Team Houston

This is the second iteration in a row that the Weightlifting World Championships are being held in the United States. In 2015, the Championships took place in Houston, Texas, and in 2016, the Rio Olympics took place, so there was no World Championship.

After the recent announcement of nine IWF member nations being barred from this year’s competition, the playing field has now become more open. It’s going to be interesting to see who can capitalize on relatively wide-open field.
