From the looks of it, Iran’s Sohrab Moradi simply cannot be stopped.
The 2016 Rio Olympic Champion returned to the international platform in sensational form Sunday night, winning the Men’s 94kg weight category at the 2017 Weightlifting World Championships by an incredible 29 kilograms. In the process, he set new World Records in the clean & jerk (233kg) and total (417kg). He broke his own World Record in the Total by 4kg.
Farkhodbek Sobirov of Uzbekistan finished in second, and Aurimas Didzbalis of Lithuania finished in third overall.
It seemed like Moradi was in control the entire session. His 184kg snatch was also good for first in that discipline, and only one other athlete clean & jerked Moradi’s opener of 220kg. After hitting 233kg on his second attempt, the Iranian declined to take a third attempt.

It was a 5-for-5 performance for the ages, and one weightlifting fans are sure to remember for years. And Moradi — who turned 29 in September — shows no signs of slowing down.
The 2017 IWF World Championships continues through Tuesday this week.
