British powerlifter Sanchez Dillon has only been competing for a couple of years but has made huge progress with his deadlift. Dillon lifts in the 105KG class in British Powerlifting, the UK affiliate of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), and is already one of its top deadlifters.
Dillon competed at the Arnold Sports Festival UK in Birmingham, England, on March 15, 2024. Expectations were high for his performance and he did not disappoint, setting a new IPF world record raw deadlift with a colossal 391-kilogram (862-pound) pull.
Dillon set up in a conventional stance and stretched tall, raising his arms to the heavens before taking the barbell in a mixed grip. The bar moved steadily to lockout with no sign of a sticking point. He doesn’t appear to have reached his limit yet.
Dillon’s lift broke the IPF deadlift world record set by Poland’s Krzysztof Wierzbicki at the Reykjavik International Games in 2019 and is only 4.5 kilograms shy of the raw world record in the class above.
Dillon broke the record on his second deadlift. For his final pull, he attempted an incredible 411 kilograms (906.1 pounds), more than anyone in the IPF has achieved in recent history. He moved the bar from the floor well but didn’t lock out the weight. It was close, though, so it might not be long before he extends the record again.
